Posted: 11/19/06 at 7:41pmI feel as though Swoosie Kurtz was a dissapointment in Heartbreak House. Julia Roberts was snubbed last year, and from what I have heard Julianne Moore is recieving a similar response to Julia Roberts.

The critics felt otherwise. I don't know how the Tony voters will feel regarding this show though, especially seeing that it will have been long closed by nomination time.

That's because it just was. By Broadway standards.
In London it's not unheard for there to be two or occasionally even three productions of the same Shakespeare in the same season. I think that's good. I wish we would see the great plays, including the great American plays, more often. And it would give our actors more of a chance to stretch themselves regularly.
Occasionally, we do get major productions of the same play really close to each other. In the '80s we got Long Day's Journey two seasons in a row. In the '90s, really strangely, we got two big productions of Timon of Athens less than a year apart. I think that's healthy.

I would LOVE to see Julie White win this because she is brilliant, especially if she is the underdog (no pun intended) in the category against Lansbury, Seldes, and Redgrave. It is awful that she is in a category with such legends. Don't get me wrong, I am sure Lansbury, Seldes, and Redgrave will all be brilliant, if not better than White. But Julie White's performance in LDL is flawless.

Posted: 11/21/06 at 6:53pmI also would like to Julie White win because it is a show with much less wide appeal than say a show adapted from a Joan Didion book.

Whomever plays La Marquise in Les Liasions Dangereuses.
Julianne Moore is, in my mind, a serious contender. She's giving a terrific performance, especially for someone with minimal stage experience. Swoosie's role in Heartbreak House struck me as a featured role.

I thought there had been talk of Natasha Richardson.
But is that scheduled to still be done this season?

Posted: 11/22/06 at 1:23amOoh...Natasha Richardson and Vanessa Redgrave in the same season. Bring in Joely and we'll have a family outing.

Posted: 11/22/06 at 1:26amJulianne Moore is giving a performance leaps and bounds ahead of Julia Roberts' last season. Granted, it can't be an exact comparison, but in the sense that they're both incredibly hyped film actresses appearing on Broadway... Moore is great at her role, in my opinion. Roberts was iffy/ passable.

Posted: 11/22/06 at 6:35amNatasha Richardson would be my first choice to play La Marquise. She also has a long-standing relationship with Roundabout, so it's plausible that she would do it. Kate Burton could also be a solid choice.

Roundabout is trying to go Hollywood for LIAISONS.
It doesn't matter, the show is completely sold out. It hasn't even gone on sale yet to the general public, and it's completely sold out at this point.
I hope they get someone good.

Posted: 12/2/06 at 10:40amI hope Angela Lansbury wins a tony for a play. I hope deuce is good, Lansbury probably wouldn't have taken the role if she thought it wasn't impressive. I really love Vannessa Redgrave and Natasha Richardson, too.
