Great year for Signature (3 nominated productions), The Atlantic (2 productions), and The Public (2 productions).

A few quibbles:

No nominations for The Clean House.

No nomination for Tony Shalhoub, who was leagues better than Patricia Heaton.

re: 2007 Lucille Lortel Nominations Announced

I echo your frustration about THE CLEAN HOUSE's snubs, Yankee. Vanessa Aspillaga's performance in particular was a complete tour de force. I'm sad that she wasn't recognized. Roles like that unfortunately don't come around too often for a performer as unique as Ms. Aspillaga.

I am however thrilled to see THE VOYSEY INHERITANCE and SPRING AWAKENING recognized, particularly Bill T. Jones' nomination for Best Choreography.

Were musicals considered/eligible for the acting nominations? I thought for sure Lin deserved one for In the Heights!

The acting categories mix plays and musicals.

WHERE ARE THE NOMINATIONS FOR THE CLEAN HOUSE???????

I haven't seen any of these except for STUFF HAPPENS and the Broadway production of SPRING AWAKENING. It's hard to imagine STUFF HAPPENS earning more nods than the brilliance of THE CLEAN HOUSE.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: 2007 Lucille Lortel Nominations Announced

While I loved John Gallagher, Jr., I was disappointed not only for him, but Jonathon Groff, Lea Michele and esp. for my biggest crush ever, Jonathon B. Wright! (i'm totally in love...) What was up with no acting nominations for musicals??

Sherie Rene Scott has a very good chance of winning this. Good for her! Pity Lili Taylor was overlooked.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Thrilled THE BUSY WORLD IS HUSHED was nominated, ditto Clayburgh. But I'm sorry Hamish Linklater was passed by.

re: 2007 Lucille Lortel Nominations Announced

The Clean House is definitely a tragedy, it's a way better play than Dying City.

I'm also surprised Durango didn't receive any nods.

Also, I don't really consider No Child to be a solo show in the same vein as Wrecks. That's kind of unfair. Wrecks was a one person play written by somebody else. No Child is an autobiographical solo performance piece.

re: 2007 Lucille Lortel Nominations Announced

I agree that THE CLEAN HOUSE is MUCH better than DYING CITY. The only reason to see DYING CITY, in my opinion, is for the performances. The play drags like hell.

I saw THE BUSY WORLD IS HUSHED and THE CLEAN HOUSE, and while I'm glad Jill Clayburgh did receive a nomination, I feel like it should have been for THE CLEAN HOUSE. But again, I'm just thrilled she's getting recognition for her big return to New York theatre. I hope to see her in four more shows this year. She certainly got to show off her versatility last year.

Wasn't THE CLEAN HOUSE the runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize?? AND IT WAS OVERLOOKED?
