Pretty much as expected/predicted in most categories.
Surprised MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET snagged a Best Musical nomination over EVERYDAY RAPTURE.
Pleased with all the noms for RAGTIME
As expected they had to nominate incidental music from 2 plays to fill out the category of "Best Score" - THAT is a travesty and shows that this season the new musicals relied far too much on old music.
Alon this line it was interesting that AMERICAN IDIOT, which so many people hear would dominate - did so poorly: 3 noms in all.
But don't take it to seriously..after all it is only the Tony awards!
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
