I was scanning through the Polls on this site and came across the one about 2nd acting shows..Call me crazy, i mean ya it would cross ones mind to do some pretty low thing (bootlegs and what not) when it comes to a show, but i've seriously never once thought about doing something like this....
Now that i think about it i can understand why people would do it...if there are empty seats and what not...I know its kind of a crazy notion but i wonder just for the sake of the almighty dollar...if a brodway show would ever consider selling empty seats at intermission for like ....$10, $15 ??? I mean its putting people in seats..making the theatre some more money...giving the actors more support, etc.
Yes i'm aware that for most tourists that the show wouldnt really make sense....but if it got out to the theatre community, wouldn't you think those seats could sell at a low price...?
What are your thoughts?
and for the love of god, if you think this post is stupid, don't mame me please, just do me a favor and dont post
I have 2nd acted before, but I find it kind of nerve wrecking.
I have asked people who were leaving at intermission if they'd mind giving me their stubs and done it that way.
In regards to your idea, it'd be an interesting concept, but if the show is sold out, I think the benefit of the extra money would be eliminated by the hassle it would create to try and determine what seats open up.
It might be a risky question, but what show(s) have you done this?
I'm just curious if it was something you liked or something that was hard to get tickets to...
In "Just Between Friends," Bea Arthur talked about how she and all her fellow aspiring actors 2nd acted when they were young. So it's certainly nothing new.
But I've never done it. I've snuck into movie theaters a few times, if that counts.
Rent was the only show I have ever 2nd acted.
This is back in the 90s and we'd lose out on the lottery and good understudies would be on.
In general, I doubt I'd ever 2nd act a show unless I had seen it already.
That's interesting. I probably wouldn't want to for a show I've never seen before, but if I was familiar with it I'd probably do that all the time!
Is there really that many people that leave during the 2nd act?! I thought that was mainly for like, Avenue Q and stuff...lol
I know it's a lot easier on tours than on Broadway.
For instance, things like Rent don't always appeal to the 70 year old season ticket holder.
When Rent was here in LA in 1997, I always was shocked at the number of people who'd leave before the song "Rent" even started.
