i think it would be just charming if people on this site would not post reviews prior to a shows opening. it really isnt fair to the show.

It is fair if the shows reviews are positive.
And, I loved Sweet Charity.

That's kind of a double standard...Post 'em if their positive, but don't bother if they're negative.

I see nothing wrong with posting an opinion of a show, even in previews. We aren't the press and are entitled to discuss our views on the board.

There have been many times over the years where I'll ponder on whether or not I should order tickets to a show on my NY trips that is still in previews. I depend to some extent and appreciate the posts from people whether positive or negative who have seen the show. At a hundred bucks a ticket, I'd like a general consensus before I spend the money.

Monday night, it let out about 10:30. Not sure how long intermission was, though.

I agree that I love reading reviews, and I know there's obviously some changes that may be made but I think for the most part if someone loves a show in previews they'll love it when it opens and if someone hates it in previews, they'll hate it when it opens. I was very happy to get reviews about Brooklyn early on, especially from people who's taste I trust here. And I'm leaving in about 2 hours for the 3rd preview, so I'll be posting my review when I get back!

If shows feel they are ready to charge the public $100 to come and see their production, than they're ready to be reviewed.

I say post a review when you see the show, previews or not. It's highly unlikely that your opinion will change.

Perfectly put.

Well, posting on a message board your thoughts on a show in previews is not much different than telling a group of friends what you thought of the show over drinks or dinner. Nobody expects to read these posts and take them as professional critical reviews that will be published in professional journals or papers. It's quite a different thing.

If they're already posting $50 tickets, I don't know if that's such a good sign...

True, shows that do well never discount their tickets...

Even Wicked had discount codes through March '04.

Discussing shows prior to the official press opening is one of the very reasons message boards exist. If you for some reason take issue with people expressing their opinion prior to the New York Times, you are of course under no obligation to read them...

Bennett, you hit the nail on the head.

WISH, I have never been a fan of the show, but I plan to keep an open mind towards the production and its stars. Expect a full review some time tomorrow.

Melissa, Michael Bennett hits that nail squarely on the head quite often, doesn't he??? Have the time of your life tomorrow night, Melissa Errico Fan. Even if the show is not totally satisfying, I am confident there will be some wonderful moments. They will be lucky to have a theaterlover like you in the audience...........Someone like you can often "help lead applause" and stuff and literally raise the level of the performance. I am often-times the one who "begins" clapping in the theater and the energy going back and forth across the footlights is part of what we theater lovers live for. Additionally, Charlotte starring as Charity "temporarily" will give everyone "in the know" an extra emotional "backstory" and will very very likely enchance every performance she stars in. I wish I was going with you tomorrow night. re: 2nd Preview SWEET CHARITY

I'm going on the 18th, and will post my "quick review". I'm a 49 year old engineer, so certainly no professional. I'm just willing to share my pedestrian views on what I see (and pay for - they aren't paying me). And since anyone certainly has the option of not reading them, they certainly have that right too! :) I enjoy reading the reviews here, whether I agree with them or not. And I seriously doubt that the reviews posted here substantially affect the show's gross. We are here to provide information from MANY different viewpoints, thats all.
