Mine was THE MUSIC MAN with the original cast. So many years ago but I still remember it like it was yesterday.

One of the earliest musicals my parents took me to see was HIGH SPIRITS which is still one of my all-time favorite shows. For me, the only person who could come close to filling Bea Lillie's shoes as Madame Arcati would be Bette Midler. Tammy Grimes was also perfect casting in the role of Elvira (especially performing "Home Sweet Heaven&quot so I'm curious who'll also be cast in that role. UPDATE: Since I truly doubt Midler would ever agree to play Arcati another name just popped into my head...

Rachel Bay Jones was also one of the best things in the PIPPIN revival. I'd seen the original, and the tour yet no one brought such a new take on the role. I'm a lifelong fan of hers now.

I loved his music with "Blame It On A Summer Night" from RAGS being my very favorite. I was only disappointed once with his score to A BROADWAY MUSICAL which I saw in previews. An overall disaster.

From what I recall, Lansbury agreed to a ten-month U.S. tour of SWEENEY TODD with the agreement that if she did, Sondheim would then write the score of SUNSET BLVD for her. However, after Jean Stapleton dropped out of MURDER, SHE WROTE Lansbury was offered the role and jumped at the offer. It was a wise decision on her part (especially financially) but I was always disappointed that it limited her time on the Broadway stage. I was fortunate enough to see Lansbury, Daly, Peters, and LuPone. But for me, my favorite was Ann Sothern who I saw at Westbury Music Fair. It's the only time the entire audience stood DURING "Rose's Turn."

The one and only time I saw a production of PAL JOEY was back in 1978 at the Music Center in Los Angeles. In fact the producers changed the title to "PAL JOEY '78" thinking it would let the audience know it was a newer, updated version of the original 1940's musical. The show (and hype) was built around the Vera Simpson character for good reason. Egregious. I recall thinking back that this was a reversal of what happened with PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. That show received ten TONY nominations yet the female lead, Sarah Brightman, was overlooked. Luckily, she was able to embark on a highly successful international career of her own. With V/V, Big Julie received the only TONY nomination. Period.

Not sure about that. Do you think in their prime that Liza's voice and range was that different from Patti LuPone's. I recall Minnelli once saying she had as good a range as Streisand in her youth. So why didn't Babs do the movie of EVITA instead of Madonna, I wonder. I feel she was more equipped for the role than Baby Jane Ciconne.

The last production I saw of CAMELOT was on a weekend stay in Seattle. It played at the 5th Avenue Theatre and starred The Yorks (Michael and Rachel respectively). As always, Rachel was a wonderful Guinivere. But Sorkin and Sher PLEASE don't do what those Lerner kids did who were in charge of that production. They cut, yes CUT, "I Loved You Once In Silence" which I was so looking forward to hearing. Especially with Rachel singing it. It's such a poignant introspective moment for the character...
