I just came back from NYC and saw The Little Mermaid, Legally Blonde, RENT, and Young Frankenstein. Here are mini reviews for all 4.
The Little Mermaid- I didn't know what to expect from this show. Some people said it sucked, others said it was magical and spectacular. I did enjoy this show. Sean Palmer was not on as Eric, and the understudy did not have the best acting. But the rest of the cast was outstanding. My personal faves were Norm Lewis, Sherie Renee Scott, Sierra Boggess, Brian D'Adarrio (sp?), Titus Burgess, and Eddie Korbach. Great Singing, the acting wasn't quite as good as I expected, and not amazing dancing. but PHENOMENAL lighting and sets. Overall- 7/10
Legally Blonde- Laura Belle Bundy was out, Becky Gulsvig played Elle Woods. This was one hell of a show. I had outstanding seats (front row mezzanine) and it just blew my mind. Becky Gulsvig did a great job, but her acting wasn't quite how I pictured Elle Woods to act. Everyone else was outstanding. I have no critiques. it blew my mind. Overall- 9/10
RENT- First time seeing the stage version! I was extremely impressed. Eden Espinosa has one of the best female voices on broadway, in my opinion. She was the perfect Maureen. I wasn't crazy with Merle Dandrige as Joanne... Adam Kantor was a great Mark! Will Chase was pretty good... Definitely worth seeing. overall- 8.5/10
Young Frankenstein- I played the Lottery and won front row seats. It was a good show...but I doubt it will last on broadway much longer. It was surprisingly crude! Almost the entire show was sex-related. And there were many kids under the age of 10 in the theatre! Roger Bart and Fred Applegate were out, but their understudies were great. CHRISTOPHER FITZGERALD STOLE THE SHOW! My..he is a great actor! The songs weren't very memorable. I saw the show yesterday and I can only remember one of the songs' melody. It was a hilarious show, but I do not recommend it to anyone under the age of 14. It is definitely a very mature show, and I am surprised broadway.com did not label it as Mature! Overall-7/10
*i am sure there are many typos in here, apologies
thanks for the reviews...how was Renne Elise Goldsberry as Mimi?
Re: YF's innuendo -- it's Mel Brooks, what do you expect? That's his humor.
Glad you enjoyed your trip! If you enjoyed those shows, imagine how much you'll enjoy your next trip if you go to see good ones! (I kid, although I don't.)
Thanks for your reviews. Sounds like you had a wonderful trip!

Renee Goldsberry was great. She kinda ran out of breath at the end of Out Tonight, but I thought she was great. Her chemistry with will chase, in my opinion, I thought was very good.
Tonyvincent- this was my first time seeing a mel brooks show. And it didn't had a mature rating, so I didn't excpect it to be so suggestive. But it was a great show.
but you were pretty unlucky with all those people out Bell Bundy, Bart, Applegate, Palmer.

yes, i was extremely unlucky...I desperately wanted to see LBB. I heard she was amazing. But Bart's understudy wasn't too bad. But I know Bart would've been much better

You didn't miss much with Bart. Not to be mean, but he really got on my nerves! He screeched just about all of his lines! Glad you enjoyed the shows!

I noticed the same thing with Renne Elise Goldsberry! She was gasping for air by the end of the song! haha :) Otherwise, she was a great Mimi!
