Has anybody seen this lately? I saw it yesterday here in Toledo... and my gosh... it was amazing... boy Mara Davi is amazing and should be on Broadway... I was just wondering if anyone else saw it and what they think of it.

one of my all times faves. but alas, i too think it isnt going to be near me

it was just by me...but naturally it came near me RIGHT after I saw it on Bway - right before it closed...

I agree with you. Mara is amazing! Don't worry, she'll be working the Broadway stage soon enough. I think Kyle, as Billy, is wonderful too. I have several friends in this touring cast. It's one of the most talented touring casts I've seen (and I saw them 6 times

Natalie, who plays Dorothy Brock on that tour posts here from time to time. She also posted the schedule, but for some reason I can't find that particular thread.

lol She's the only one from the show that got a bad review here... I felt bad for her... I would like to talk to her though! I'm pretty much in love with all of them now!

I'm here! Thanks Brdwaybaby17...that review was a little jolting, especially since they praised absolutely everyone else. But, if you read the good ones, you have to read the bad ones too. I was consoling myself with some of Blair Ross and Christine Ebersole's not so kind reviews. I think it's the character...I don't want to play her as some pretty-singing woman...she is grating! Hi Natalie. You are very gracious about your "bad" review. As we all know, a review is just one person's opinion, and for every performance which has gotten a rave from one critic, there is sure to be another critic who hated it. Just look at the diverse opinions on this board. Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to seeing 42nd Street on March 20 in San Bernardino, as you know. I just found out that 42nd Street is part of the new Theater Guild 2005-2006 Season, and I subscribe to the Pasadena season. Is this the same tour that you are currently in? It's a great show so I won't mind seeing it again!

I'm not sure about Pasadena...we haven't received notification about the second year dates or places yet. More likely than not, it's our group, but there may be some personnel changes. I plan on staying, but some of the other leads may go. Thank you eslgr8...as we all know, once you're in the public spotlight...EVERYONE has an opinion about what you do...both good and bad. Just look at this message board!

Sorry to change the subject, but I thought the closing cast on Broadway was amazing....a million times better than the cast on the CD...

Can anyone remind me who played Dorothy Brock? She was amazing...

EDIT: Oh, nevermind, it was Blair Ross...I knew that sounded familiar!

Blair Ross played the role of Dorothy Brock when the Broadway production closed. Yes she is amazing...she did the national tour for about three years before going into the Broadway cast. It was her Broadway debut! The original Dorothy Brock in the 2001 Revival was Christine Ebersole...the very original Dorothy Brock (1980) was Tammy Grimes.

ya, I do not really like Christine as compared to Blair Ross....

She really got bad reviews?

She played it as I would imagine....and she was hilarious...

So, if you are playing her like Blair, you are playing it just fine...

I saw Blair on the tour and thought she was wonderful. Her voice had a very nice smokey sound to it.

When I first heard Shadow Waltz on the Cd it was my least favorite song. I thought it was one of the worst things I have ever heard.

When I saw it in the show I was crying, laughing so hard.

42nd Street is def. a visual show...

I worked with the same direction as Blair Ross...so I assume we interpret the character in the same manner. I never got the opportunity to see her, unfortunately. I think reviewers sometimes confuse the fact that Dorothy is a bitchy diva with the actual talent of the actresses playing her. If I would sing these songs in a cabaret setting, of course I would interpret them differently, but in the show (with all of the visual comedy), the songs sound differently.

I agree, reviewers are horrible.

But I think tours are different. I mean, correct me if I am wrong, but the point of the tour is to allow people that don't live near NYC, can't afford B'way prices (in some cases), and to continue showing a show after it closes on B'way. I don't think reviewers can kill a tour as easily as a Broadway show...

But still, as long as it doesn't get you down. You got the role, afterall.

We'll be in Fayetteville on April 15-17 at the Walton Arts Center. You're right, BsoBW2...as a rule, our reviews have been great, but you once in a while get that reviewer who wants to show his/her grand journalistic skills and needs to rip something apart. But, everyone has their opinion. I'm just happy to be working and doing such a great role.
