I have it on my DVR from when it was broadcast by PBS, but I don't think I know you well enough to invite you over to watch it. It's a good production, though I wish they had filmed it when Sheena Easton was still playing the Tammy Grimes/Christine Ebersole role. On the OLCR, Easton sings her songs in a head voice that makes her sound like the "previous generation" to Peggy and the other "kids".
In the US, it is also available on PBS Passport. It’s an app/website, but in order to watch you have to donate to your local PBS station. I believe the minimum donation is $60 per year. The King and I, Kinky Boots, She Loves Me, An American in Paris and more are currently available.
Yes, I know. 42ND STREET is one of my favorite, musical films. (For some reason, as a kid I loved Busby Berkeley, then skipped over the "Golden Age" of Hollywood musicals to the R&H period. I don't feel the same now and, looking back, I have no idea why I had that bias.)
I thought others might better know the role by the famous ladies who played it on Broadway.
But thank you for the addition. I know you were just being helpful.
There was a news blip earlier today on BW headlines, that PBS was going to have a Summer Great Performances Broadway series beginning this month. Cross your fingers that 42 St may be one of their showings. It starts July 24 with She Loves Me.
