I need help. I need a duet (to be done in concert) between a bass and a soprano. My range goes from double-low C to high G (belt), and to double-high F (falsetto). I'm not positive about her range, but I wouldn't pick anything too low. I don't think you'll be able to find anything too high for her; she's PHENOMENAL. I've looked at "All I Ask of You", "Take Me As I Am" from J&H, "If I Loved You", and the like. We both have rich voices, so nothing jazzy or rock please; we'd suck at that.
Thanks for your help.

I know a lot of songs and most of them that are Bass-soprano duets will come from that R&H,Lerner and Loewe, Frank Lesser era so I'm not sure how to help. By rich do you mean legit broadway? Also what is your goal? Do you want to show of your voices or does that not matter as much. I was thinking something like Sondheim's Country House (from Putting it Together). There's also Wheels of a Dream from Ragtime. You COULD look at Passion but I don't know exactly if you want something like that. There's Wunderbar from Kiss Me Kate. I mean there's one in basically every R&H show. Someone else should reply to this. I'm feeling quite incompetant....

Posted: 3/15/05 at 6:48pmthose two go low. we just did it takes two at my recital and my soprano had a really hard time going to the low a. you should go farther back if you want higher songs. like golden age back.

I know I need to go back a few decades to find the right music. I'll find out from her how low he can sing, but as far as general types, no one really ever wrote specifically for BASS roles. I can sing R&H, Lerner & Loewe, Sondheim (he rarely requires more than an F#), etc. baritones. TRUE baritones, not bari-tenor.
The concert is for a musical theatre voice class final. Most everyone is doing Wicked, Producers, stuff written in the past 30 years, etc. So the goal is to show off our voices, yes. I picked her so we could do something older. By rich I mean, well for her... Old School soprano (i.e. Andrews, Martin, etc.). For myself, think somewhere around George Hearn, Don Quixote, and Javert all rolled into one, but darker... much darker... and less talented...
Thanks.
