Do musicals need to be relevant or have a specific motive or reason? Many musicals serve the purpose of taking the audience to another place to forget their troubles in their lives. Same with many films. 9 to 5, while it may not have a huge purpose or theme, does set out by entertaining the audience with upbeat songs, comedy and a reason to sit back, enjoy, and forget the troubled world outside for 2 and 1/2 hours.

That is precisely how I feel about 9 to 5. There are three amazing performances by the three talented women who use their vocal chops and comedic timing to pull of one heck of an entertaining evening. Not to mention the great supporting case and the ensemble who seem to be on stage just as much as the three leading ladies.

Miracle....I for one appreciated your review and insight. I have a tendancy to dislike reviews that ONLY spew how amazing OR how horrid a show is. Although I understand that some show are desrving of either, I would rather get both the ins and outs. And may I mention, I didn't think there was anything contentious about your original post at all!

I will NEVER understand (and I know I've "voiced" this here...) how people get UPSET by others opinions. How IN ANY WAY does what another not liking a show take away from another's feelings for it?

LOVE something? Great? HATE a show? (Which the original OP did NOT)? FINE? Think it's only "good"? That's great too. I might be disappointed when a FRIEND doesn't enjoy something the way I do, but it would never get my ire going. (Although I do admit that when a date rolled his eyes at my tearing up over a breathtaking set design, I decided we weren't "right" for each other!) I'm still going to feel the same way about a show that I feel about it.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

^ ahhh, refreshing to read something positive and well written.

I saw the show in LA and really had a good time. But, I'm trying to decide, did I have a good time because loved the show, or did I have a good time because I loved Megan, SJB, and Allison? That's my dilemma.

I think the show will show it's weaknesses/strengths when it replaces the leads. I think the three ladies bring a lot to their roles that maybe other actresses wouldn't/couldn't.
