LOL. If the show is broccoli, then it's the best broccoli I ever tasted. But, I would compare it to an onion--many layers and it made me cry.
I saw alot of my Grandma and my mother on that stage in Faith's character. I saw the sacrifice and regret and pain and heartache they must have felt. It gave me beautiful insight into the humanity of those two women about things we never have and may never be able to discuss.

I AM SORRY. But whoever said REPLACE HARVEY WITH A REAL ACTOR PISSES ME OFF.
Harvey is a real actor. Remember Hairspray.
Anyone who bashes Harvey has to get through me.
I LOVE HARVEY.
He was also a great host of the Drama Desk Awards.
He cracks me up.
The man wrote LA CAGE and is a legend.

Posted: 4/22/08 at 4:31pmThere's been a lot of Love It/Hate It with this year's musicals. If last year was the season of tepid hits, this year seems to be the year of polarizing hits.

Corine, I wholeheartedly agree!
Seriously?
Harvey's not a 'real actor'? Seriously?
That's THE MSOT bogus claim I have EVER heard.

Posted: 4/22/08 at 6:03pmI like Harvey. But his work has always been hit or miss. That is o.k. He is a true artist.

I saw A Catered Affair in San Diego. I liked it for the type of creative effort that was attempted. I guess I'm saying that I place a very high value on creativity and some types are just more difficult to achieve than others.
I felt the musical was just a couple of gorgeous memorable melodies from being a brilliant show. And if those numbers had been present, we wouldn't care about the questionable choice of actors or personalities.
I found it quite moving but can understand that others would find it slow and not as compelling.

I saw it last night. It was awful and everyone sitting around me hated it too. Many people outside of the theatre were complaining about it. They should not charge $110 for a 90 minute show. You feel ripped off. Plus it's an agonizing, incredibly boring experience. The audience barely clapped at the end until Faith Prince took her bow.
Between this, The Little Mermaid and something else that I hated (that I wont say since I seem to be in the minority and will be crucified), this season is INCREDIBLY dissapointing!

Posted: 4/22/08 at 8:12pmJerby isn't trying to get the cast to like him more. What would be the point of that? They already adore him. (And they're not the only ones.)

Dame marry him already. I will perform the ceremony.
PS I see A CATERED AFFAIR MANANA.
I ADORE HARVEY EVEN IF HE DOES NOT ADORE ME.
PS Bruce Vilanch is my favorite EDNA.
And he adores me less.
Sucks to be me.
