I was just thinking about some comments posters have made about the Best Featured Actor race, specifically that Christopher Sieber will not win because he's "playing a two-dimensional cartoon character" and Will Swenson will because he's playing a "real character". Myself, I'm rooting for Seibz, but Swenson will probably win just to reward the ensemble.
But Will is playing a full-fledged character...really? I love his voice and his songs, but Berger is just a ditzy, hippy-dippy goof-off with no real plot or character arc. Not that he's not giving a better performance than Sieber or that Sieber isn't a caricature, but is it really fair to say he's playing a "real character"?
Yes....I think so. There is SO much going on behind that hippy dippy. WATCH Berger when he's not in the focus. Watch him watch his world. Incredible. He simply "is". He want to appear to ONLY be a goof, but is not.
I thought Sieber was the absolute BEST performance of Shrek. (I liked Brian D'Arcy James, but he brought nothing different to the role than was established in the movie -- imho.)
