Posted: 4/15/05 at 2:44pmWell, if some of you remember I posted about a week ago asking for suggestions on audition pieces for my A Chorus Line audition. WELL...I ended up getting cast as Larry, the assistant to Zach (the head choreographer). But I don't know how I feel about this role yet. I don't even know if it's a big role...an important role...a decent role...I know nothing, lol. If anyone could shed some light on this role for me and make me feel better and more comfortable with it, it'll be much appreciated. Thanks!

Congrats on getting a part! I'm actually more familiar with the movie version (I've only seen it on stage once, a very long time ago) and I can't remember how different it is from the stage show, but Larry's part is a decent one. From what I remember he's on stage quite a bit 'cause he's teaching the dancers the choreography. Sorry if this doesn't really help...
Have fun!!

Posted: 4/15/05 at 3:36pmlol oh god! not at all! I just want a role that I can work with. And if a role is only in a show for a span of 3 minutes then that doesn't always give the actor much to work with.

Posted: 4/15/05 at 3:37pmWell, I know Larry teaches that whole combination at the beginning, so I would assume (though admittedly, I only know the movie version, which is quite sad) that he's a good faatured role....but I could be wrong.

Posted: 4/15/05 at 3:48pmLarry is not a major role. He doesn't have a major monologue as the line has. He is a dancing role. He opens the show with Zach teaching the combo, although he doesnt teach it just does it along with Zach. He jumps in and does the combo with one of the groups. He has like two lines. Any questions you can PM. Im very familiar with the show.

Posted: 4/15/05 at 3:53pmnone of the male roles in A CHORUS LINE really get to standout except perhaps for the character of Paul who gets to do the highly overrated, rather mundane monologue about his gayness. Even the part of Zach is kinda silly (you have to suspend disbelief to believe a choreographer would put these folks through the silly psycho babble that goes on)but Zach does have one exciting scene with Cassie, the "IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?!" scene. YOU have a good part.........Most actors in New York would give their eyeteeth to do that role. CONGRATULATIONS!!! A CHORUS LINE is about as close to heaven as musicals get. You will have a divine time...........

I've done A CHORUS LINE a few times and if you like to dance, Larry is a great role -- he does all the major choreography and doesn't have to stand on that line for 90 minutes.
It will be a great opportunity for you -- especially if they are recreating the Michael Bennett choreography.
Congratulations!

In the ACL we just did, Larry (Sheri in our production) sat on a stool on stage practically for the entire show. But I think you can make the most of it. The first time I did the show, the guy that played Larry really went with it and made it a very memorable part.
Congratulations!
