Are the same people always cut at the end of ACL? Did they ever switch people around?

Thanks

No, though in the movie (spoiler?) Judy is cut instead of Bebe.

Originally they were going to cut different people each performance, but, I kid you not, it was "too hurtful" and the cast found it too nerve-wracking.

Man, cocaine sure made people edgy.

If I'm not mistaken, while it was in previews off-Broadway, it did vary from night to night who got cut.

Under duress, I saw a very bad regional production of ACL, and when they cut the same people as in the OBC, it made no sense. Those weren't the strongest dancers at all. I wish they'd changed it to fit their cast. But that might've been "Too Hurtful."

I've heard that on national tours that they cut different people every night.

No. Different people are not cut every night, and there is a very good reason why (and it has nothing to do with emotional devestation, Namo - Michael Bennett would have terrorized those dancers every chance he possibly could)...

Off Broadway, they did play around with who was "cast" and who was "cut." For a long time Kristine made it over Cassie. And Bennett may have wanted that realism in the final show

However...

The actors have a very fast costume change. Crazy fast. The dancers who are "cut" at the end, change and emerge single file in the finale, "One" while the actors who "make" the "show" are actually still changing. That order affects the formation and the actual chorus line during the climax of the number.

To ask dancers to be in a different spot during the finale every night would be a disaster. It has to be frozen.

Zach's final monologue is actually pre recorded as well. He dances in the finale and usually goes backstage and changes during "What I Did for Love."

Maybe now we are in an age where reality programmes are hot, the audience can decide who stays and who goes? Kind alike pop idol...

Joking, of course...but it wouldnt suprise me if it happened!
