"A Chorus Line" versus "Company"

The professional theatre where I work has just made a quick jump in this year's musical production.
Originally we were slated to produce a production of Company by Sondheim. Because of the Broadway revival, and some financial and artistic factors, the decision has been made to change to A Chorus Line.
I was excited that we were doing Company but I can't help but be more excited that we are doing A Chorus Line.
Any thoughts?
*edit* I know you'll call me a shill... but it's a title I happily wear in this case. Though, I'm legitimately interested in your thoughts.

I was thinking we might get Stritch for Company though. I don't think there's a part for her in "Line". Well... maybe Cassie.
(I mean we did swing Karen Ziemba for 'House' & 'Garden', so star casting isn't that much of a stritch, uh stretch.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 10:25amCompany is overdone? Really? I've never had a chance to see it live - but I think it's a brilliant show. I'd choose to see it over Chorus Line any day (not that I don't like Chorus Line, but, I mean, really - Company!!! Sondheim!!!)

Posted: 1/31/05 at 11:40amI saw both original productions of "Company" and "A Chorus Line". When "Company" was over, I was glad to get up and stretch and go get a bite to eat. When "A Chrous Line" was over, I felt exhilerated and wanted to see it again!

Ophelia is rejoining a theatre that is bracing for that production... It should make for excellent overtime pay though.
I think the move to 'A Chorus Line' may have also been motivated by the need for a bigger financial success.
We've had a very artistically satisfying season with almost ZERO name recognition. Sadly that has had an impact on single ticket sales. (Ophelia's show has great name recognition, but I think alot of people are afraid of it.)

Posted: 1/31/05 at 1:37pmSOmetimes I wish that there were more guy solos in a Chorus Line. But so much of that show has to do with your character thats its amazing how much you fall in love with them. Like Paul for example. HE has his whole drag show monologue and then you want him to make it most of all, and then he hurts his knee. This is an amzing show.

Posted: 1/31/05 at 1:46pmboth shows can stand on their own merits. i agree that both are brilliant works of art and both shows benefitted (sp) from the talent of the late great michael bennett.

Listen... Stritch can do anything.
If you need someone to play 30-40, she can do it.
Hell, I'd cast her as Shelley in 'Bat Boy'. She's a machine.
