I'm currently playing Philia in a community theater production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," and I was wondering if anyone had an tips for me on how to approach this part. Any gestures, way to deliver lines...just any special nuances that would make her more interesting. Thanks a bunch!

Jackers asks a serious question, and gets made fun of. Some people are just so mature.
Anyhoo, Jackers, sorry, I haven't seen the show, so I can't help you. I just had to say something.
Like many dumb blonde characters in farcical plays and musicals, Philia is not really "in" on the joke. She's a bit of a blank, and her humor comes from her general cluelessness. In a song like "That'll Show Him," she really believes what she's saying - that by making wild passionate love to Miles, she's really showing him how much she loves Hero. Any self-awareness or modern ironic "comment" on the character will kill the humor.

there is a difference between making fun of somebody and just having fun. stop being so serious and learn to relax.
I recently saw A Funny Thing Happened at the National theatre in London, the girl who played Phillia in this production played her Welsh. This was very funny, but not sure the joke would translate to the states but just thought i'd let you know.
The character is clueless and has no idea what's going on.
Base it on Timote.
Timote in case you haven't noticed. Very little on this board is of a serious nature. Trying to impose one on me or anybody else on this board will naturally be rebelled against and you will be forced to see the error of your tyrannical ways.
