I just rewatched the broadcast and didn't think the Spring Awakening team came off as arrogant at all. Sater was just overly emotional, which I know I would be if I just won a Tony.

I laughed out loud that we were even having this argument on here.

We should let it roll off their backs, but it's no problem if they intentionally create threads to bash it?

Ever hear of taking the high road? They're sore losers. Why not just let them wallow in their misery alone instead of jumping in to rub salt in the wounds?

Seeing all the producers trekking up on stage, all I could think of was this:

First we see the kids from SA, all dressed like (weird but) innocent waifs and then all the old (mostly white and male) producers standing behind them, smiling.

If this was a commercial, it would be about kids who go onto chat lines

"And these are my friends, they're all my age"

and we see all the old men who claim to be 15-year-old-girls on the chat page.

Anyone else get that creepy feeling?

I'd like to think I'm pretty theatre savvy. I saw "Spring Awakening." I didn't think it was a waste of my money or time, but I did not find it to be "revelatory" in any way. As many have pointed out, rock music on Broadway is nothing new. I personally think that "Spring Awakening" may be bordering on becoming "overrated."

If they were trying to take Rent's place as the overrated "revolutionary" musical they did a wonderful job. We can congratulate them on that.

At least RENT was decent enough that I could be obsessed with it for a year or so before realizing how much it sucked. SA I had to force myself to finish the cast recording.

Well, I was about 15 when I first heard RENT, so I guess I was its "target audience." Maybe I would have liked SA back then too.

So many people charged the stage that I was waiting for the animals from The Living Nativity to come out. They do live at Radio City Music Hall, you know. Don't they?

Did I seriously read that Spring Awakening was better than RENT? I will say Spring Awakening deserved most of its awards, but come on, Best Choreography? Best Book? Best Orchestrations? RENT is leagues above Spring Awakening...And the award for Best New Over-Rated Musical goes to....Spring Awakening....Forget about learning about teen anxiety, suicide and sex in school, now we can just go learn about it in song!

There is so much on this thread that I would love to refute, but I'm holding my composure... I think that Spring Awakening is good. I don't love it. I don't think it deserved "some" of the awards it won. I agree the speeches were a bit ridiculous. These threads are appearing because people are in shock because there are equal or even "better" nominees (In their opinion). I think people need to stop assuming the motives of people, and just discuss the topic. You disagree, we understand that, but don't get so defensive. Obviously we can't contain all the topics that Spring Awakening has brought about in one thread.
