"My only problem with that cast would be Patinkin."

I struggled as I typed it. I was thinking George Clooney, but I wanted someone I was sure could sing well.

How about Treat Williams as Frederick. Would he be considered too old for it now?

Not to be rude but I am 100 percent certain Taylor Swift would struggle with the vocal demands of Anne.

Honestly Anne strikes me as a role that could go to a young talented soprano broadway singer while the rest are stars

Madame Armfeldt, Desiree, Frederick, the Countess (who I stand by saying Emily Blunt is just such a perfect idea for her) the Count and maybe Petra would probably all have to be star power but Henrik and Anne could be newcomers. As well as Fredericka.

"but Henrik and Anne could be newcomers."

There has to be something that pulls the young demographic in. And ALNM especially needs that. Sweeney Todd had Depp plus lots of gore and blood, ITW had magic and fairytales, but ALNM really needs something to pull in the younger generation. Therefore, Anne and Henrik must be recognizable to younger audiences.

A 28-year-old will go to an operetta about adultery set in Sweden because a Glee star plays a role? The demo watches netflix and doesn't open movies unless they have high concept. Better to build a remake for the "Marigold Hotel" crowd, Dench as Madame, etc, and open in in mid-summer as alternative programming to counter Superman IV. Leave the disinterested youth out of the mix.

While the tween set may be seen as essential for success, do the movie's producers really have any business trying to pander to them? Really regardless of the "tween appeal" in casting if they keep true the majority of the piece it probably wouldn't interest Swift or Jonas fans anyway.

Like Auggie said, better to appeal to the crowd that goes for quirky, classy indie movies over mainstream stuff.

Yeah the demographic is the Marigold Hotel and Downton Abbey costume drama crowd ultimately. Of which they are a large crowd.

Also nothing brings in people like the subject of the show which is well,

There are only three musicals which I would consider "perfect" (not my personal favorites, but I could watch forever and never be bored):
1) Gypsy
2) Hello, Dolly! and
3) A Little Night Music

All three have made dreadful films and all are in desperate need of a remake. Lansbury would be perfection. But please, leave Zeta-Jones out of musicals forever. I don't need her head rotations during "Send In the Clowns".
