I was just watching "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" on T.V. and the contestant was going for the final $1,000,000 question and the question turned out to be a Broadway Trivia question. He didn't have a clue and walked with $500,000. Do you know the answer to this Million Dollar question?

The song "God Bless America" was written for what Broadway musical?

My perfect day would begin at on the beach in Hana, Maui and end at a Broadway Musical.

"God Bless America" was written by Irving Berlin for his 1918 musical revue YIP, YIP YIPHANK. The song was cut from the show prior to opening. The song was forgotten by Berlin himself for 20 years

In 1938, Berlin was asked by Kate Smith to write a patriotic song for her radio show to be broadcast on Armistice Day. He tried and wasn't happy. Then he remembered and out of the trunk came "God Bless America." The rest is history.

I sang it myself two weeks ago at Yankee Stadium. Ah, not on the ballfield but in the stands.

Yours for a patriotic Broadway!

Thanks. I'll send my address to you privately for the $1,000,000.00 check!

I regretted immediately after sending my response. I should have sent it to you privately so others could have responded.

I have lately been chiding Magruder for immediately responding to my puzzlers, and I did the same thing! LOL Oh well. I'll remember next time.

Yours for a better Broadway! Updated On: 8/2/03 at 12:44 PM

They use Broadway for lots of questions. One asked what was the name of the female lead in POTO and the guy/gal (can't remember which) DID NOT KNOW IT! Aggggh!

The same thing happened when asked "What is the name of the charactor used in the ad for Le Miz?"

I guess it is understandable. Not everyone is into theater and I'm sure I miss questions that would be very easy for others BUT......
