best part = meeting rob and seeing craig =D
Worst part = the 1000 RENTheads hounding the rent table for a total of 15 costume pieces...
A Very overpriced flea market this year (even though it's a wonderful cause , things just seemed top dollar at every table) all they really had were show tshirts , food , signed posters , playbills , sheet music and several costume pieces ...
I won 3 pairs of Phantom Of The Opera Tickets , 2 Pairs Of Forever Tango Tickets , 2 Pairs Of I Love You Youre Perfect , Now Change , 1 Pair Of Donkey Show , 1 Pair of BUG tickets and 1 pair of PERFECT CRIME tickets at the tkts table all with spending $15.00 on raffles... everyone else around me won Dracula , Fiddler , Wicked, Ave Q, RENT, Hairspray , 42nd Street and Producers and I got stuck with these... I gave all but 1 pair of POTO tickets to friends...so basically, I got nothing and went on my merry way,. I wish I could of met more people but, it was VERY packed.
that is all

Posted: 9/19/04 at 7:21pmI think the flea market has become a rather sad affair. About 10 years ago (has it been THAT long??) it was terrific fun -- tons of tables, lots of planning by the various shows, great creativity & a true sense of community. You also came away feeling as if you got a bargain on a unique item. It eventually became a bake sale & then a book sale & now just sort of give-us-your-money-because-it's-a-good-charity sale. I go every year I remember -- but don't always remember anymore. That's another thing that bothers me. This used to be a HUGE event in the theatre district -- show cards in every theatre lobby & all the storefront businesses in the area. Now, it's just sort of ... THERE. I understand that they need an event to support the uber-profitable Grand Auction, but that event ought to be attractive enough to draw a real crowd. It was sort of sad this year, but not nearly as sad as last year. Still, I spent some money & got some nice stuff. But, it didn't make my toes tingle.

Case and point. Last year the Ann and Bebe signed bowlers at the Chicago table were $50. This year they were $100.

Very few show tables, and NO show tables for the new shows.. Why not??? Only saw tables (may have missed some, but wsa LOOKING for new shows) for Ave Q, Mamma Mia, Fiddler, Taboo, Producers, Aida, Chicago. No Brooklyn, no Little Women not even Dracula.... And no Boy from Oz, they didn't have one last year either!
I spent $20 on those ticket chances and won NOTHING. Would have been happy with anything...

I'd KILL for a bowler signed by either of those fabulous ladies!

I disagree I think the event was fabulous. I have been going for only a few years but love the event. I was dissappointed this year compared with past years that there seemed to be less show tables. But then again there seem to be less shows on right now.
Still, I got some great stuff and saw some great people.

Posted: 9/20/04 at 11:49amI'd never been before yesterday, and even though a lot of the stuff was overpriced, I had a really good time. I loved the atmosphere, and maybe it was just because I hadn't gone in the past, but I felt that sense of community that I love about Broadway. I came home with some interesting stuff, and my money went to a wonderful cause.
