I think it's partly due to the whole text messaging thing too. When you only get so many letters in a message, you have to abbreviate. (Hence the whole "IDK. My BFF Jill?...TISNF" commercial.)
That said...some of them do confuse me easily. Every time I see DQ (now I know it's Don't Quit... But it's still that rifst reflex.) I wonder why people are talking about Dairy Queen. (Fairly recent transplant from the south here.)

I'm so there with you Dottie...And Seth is right on the money (ROT$)
But here's the one that gets me EVERY TIME. Many a time this site is referred to as BWW and us as BWW'ers.
BROADWAY is one word, not two. So why isn't it just BW?

BWW is an acronym for "Broadway Wankers"
Or is it "Broadway World", I'm not sure...
