Also, there is a show called JB by Archibald Macleish, it was written in the 50s--I always get thrown by that. I can type Jersey as quickly as I can type JB.
Daniel ` I hadn't even thought about that, but you're right. The drama kids did that at North Carolina Governor's School East the summer I was there. It's good!

JB could also be a shortened version of JBIAAWALIP
^ I'm almost afraid to ask...
But what's that?

I have to admit...whenever I see FOTR I think "Fellowship of the Ring" before I think "Fiddler on the Roof".
Mythus: I was just about to post the same thing! ^_^
I had issues when the Dreamgirls movie just came out. Couldn't for the life of me figure out what this AIATYING song you were all talking about was. :P
He should get over it.
I agree with him. We keep shortening everything! Pretty soon it's just going to be initials and my post will look like this:
I a w?h. W k s e! P s i j g t b i & my p w ll t:
Absurd.
But you get the point.

I agree with Seth. Especially on a board where there are hundreds of shows being discussed, the acronyms can be kind of obscure. There's no reason to have to type out a long title, just as you wouldn't say the whole title in person. IMO, if you want to shorten it, type whatever you would say if you were talking to someone: Phantom, Fiddler, Forum, Les Miz, Dirty Rotten, etc.
If the topic has already been established at length and the name is getting mentioned over and over, OK then fine, use the acronym if you have to. If the entire thread is about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, I will know what you mean when you say DRS. The same goes for forums that are about only one show. But acronyms in thread titles and initial posts usually require way too much thinking to even figure out what the topic is.
I will admit to using POTO, even though I think it's kind of ridiculous. I once had a conversation with a co-worker at the show who asked, "Do people actually call it that out loud? It sounds like a fart. 'Oh, excuse me, I POTOed!'" Ever since then that's what I think of when I see it or write it. I also use MOTN and PONR when jotting a note quickly, but only because I know what it means. But on a public board where not everyone is so familiar with the songs in every show, it's lazy. WYWSHA is absurd. It's called "Wishing." One extra letter, far less brain power required. Nobody seems to have a verbal abbreviation for AIAOY, though, and it really could use one. Long-ass boring song, long-ass boring title. Maybe I should start calling it LABS.

HAHA! I love Seth.
"Some are ridiculous. GG, SA, PQ, MFTM, LB, ACL, etc. UGH."
Oh, but UGH is my favorite show!
...No really, when I first read that, I thought "What show is UGH?"
The only time I do this is for See What I Wanna See, because I tend to think it's clearer than just See. And faster than See What I Wanna See.
I don't like acronyms either.

Agreed on Fellowship/Fiddler. Also, every time I see SA, I think of the website Something Awful.
i think its mostly 4 people hoo cant type or spell they think that it's cool or something
But I must admit, I've found myself using ACL and a few others.
WHAT WAS I THINKING???
Doesn't everyone already know I'm talking about that amazing new show "All Clowns Laugh?"
What do think maybe:
The Utter Glory of Morrissey Hall
with a couple letters missing?
The one that had me stumped was when someone used: SFANW
Songs for a new world
Not to mention the times people have used TLAs (three letter acronyms) and then made a typo! You have no hope!
Hey Seth
F.U.!
I kid of course, but I hope you're just kidding about actually feeding a child Froot Loops and Cinnamon Toast Crunch for breakfast. That's almost as unhealthy as taking her to see Mamma Mia.
I thought MFTM was "My First Tinkle, Mommy."
This all started with that dagnabbed Marat/Sade!
...since reduced to M/S.
It's the same complaint I've been making when people combine names when referring to a person (i.e., JLo, JHud, etc.). Just type out the fricken name.
