I don't know much about this Blog "Fast Hugs" but I do know that this posting about Tony Danza'a appearance in "Producers" is one of the all-time great slams. "The thought of Tony Danza, however, standing next to both Nathan Lane and Zero Mostel (the original Bialystock in the screen original) makes about as much sense as Woody Allen making a cameo in Waiting To Exhale."

or perhaps you prefer "But between his accent, his resume, and the short-lived talk show on which he proved himself a near-illiterate imbecile..."

I was on my way to a show last night when a middle-age couple in front of me started talking about Danza's performance in Producers. They had two teenage girls with them, and one of them immediately asked who Tony Danza was.

And I felt about a million years old. (I'm not even 27).

I never got Tony Danza's appeal. He can't act, he can hardly speak, and he's not that good looking. It just showed how desperate the housewives who watched Who's the Boss were during the 80s.

As has been reported hundreds of time, Lopez WILL NOT be going into the Producers. He can not and will not sing on stage.

I love when people don't even check their sources. Mario Lopez might have been mentioned for The Producers, but it was for the role of Leo, not Max.

During his Taxi days, he was considered the "hot" one, which made the set difficult, since the blond guy playing Bobby thought he was supposed to be the pretty one. Danza's been riding that train ever since, even now, when the years havent been especially kind.

But let's be brutally honest here: insofar as "cant act, cant speak, and not that good looking" -- who says we could apply these to Mostel or Lane? Both of them were/ar essentially one-note performers: at times briliiant in that one note, but one note nevertheless. About the only stretch Mostel ever did was performing Ionesco's "Rhinoceros", but it was still Mostel playing Mostel schtick. And Nathan Lane isnt exactly going to be performing King Lear anytime soon.

So please, let's not over-embroider the role. Danza can probably do it as well as anyone else.

Tony gave it his all and that should be applauded. His King of Broadway was rocky but managed to overcome any shortcomings by the time the 2nd Act rolled around.

Can't say I love his face, but for a grandfather, he has an amazing body and I wouldn't kick him to the curb anytime soon.

No he wasn't. While I definitely think he was miscast, he gave the role his all. There was no lack of effort, which I appreciated. I'm not running back to go see him again, though.

I commented to my fiance at the stage door that for his age, he has an amazing head of hair, lol!

Well, when I went to see the show, I knew he had received bad reviews. But, I think even his bad reviews were favorable. He was awful. I felt like I was watching a high school performance. (The rest of the cast was great).

OMG, I started reading that and I couldn't stop laughing. That' so funny.

The only person that I can think of that gave Tony a rave review was Regis Philbin. Regis just thought he was fantastic. I was thinking about seeing him, but when the video came on with him in the show, that section of King Of Broadway that he was singing didn't really sit well with me, as did the scene after Max gets the money from the little old ladies and talks to Bloom, but when he and Roger were singing, I was fine with it.

I think they should've gotten someone else to do this like John O'Hurley, Jon Lovitz, or Jason Alexander(I'm really curious to see him as Max, especially since he did it in LA). I would've loved to have seen Lovitz as Max, he has such a wonderful, strong voice(watch The Critic to hear it especially the episode "Roger and Ebert and Alice and Jay".

Has the show been packed since Tony Danza has been in it? Hows the student rush? I never seen "The Producers" and only last week I noticed they did Student Rush? I don't know why I didn't try to see the show once before. My friends and I would like to catch the shows before Danza leaves!!

Packed? Certainly not. I'm going tomorrow night and expecting the theater to be only half full. I will report back.

Jason Alexander, if memory serves, didn't have the vocal stamina, but he gave an original performance. Martin Short was playing Martin Short.

I would love to see John O'Hurley do it, but he's in Vegas with Spamalot.
