I don't know what my fellow 'people of a certain age' felt about this show when it opened in the early 70s. I loved it and probably saw it more times in its 10 month run than I have seen any other show ever, with the possible exception of Follies (and excluding all the times I snuck into the Apple Tree for Acts 2 and 3, as well as paying to see the whole show few times).
While it only ran for a season, I have always thought that it was good enough to be revived, assuming that you could figure out how to replace the Andrews Sisters. In an earlier post today, someone conjectured that Patti Lupone would probably not take a lead in a musical, since there issue much singing. I immediately thought of Over Here; the two lead roles only have a few songs each, which might be a plus to great, charismatic stars whodunit want sign 10 songs a performance. Couldn't you just see BP and PL playing the roles, or ...take your pick,e.g., Bebe Neuwirth and Anne Reinking, who was in the original production.
Since the sisters have no nromantic threads in the show, the roles really could be played by people with a wide range of ages. The sisters could be in their 40s, 50s, 60s, even 70s.
Does anyone else think this has any merit???
The original production did not appear to be a huge budget show...modest scenery and costumes, small cast. I can't help thinking it could even be a Roundabout production, with possible extensions based on buyer interest, ability to recast the lead roles, etc.
I am curious what others think this idea.

I think they were trying to get a revival up here in the UK a number of years ago with Donna McKechnie. But you know the audience that is really nostalgia for this (and the piece was originally pure nostalgia) is pretty much all dead.
Does "Over Here" make anyone else think of that episode of THE GOLDEN GIRLS where Blanche sings this in her boudoir under the sheets?
