Posted: 12/30/07 at 1:21pmThe producers have been aiming for this year but it dosen't seem likely. What do you think?

I am currently recording demo songs with one of the producers. they want it on broadway and (aiming, hoping) for it to be here this season. they are in the talks with the nederlanders for the marquis but they are competeing with cry-baby. they would go for another theatre but there is a lack of a big enough house. if they cannot get a big enough house this season, they will be forced to wait for the next. one choice is the imperial if august doesnt extend but they would have to leave by around june/july for billy. if there is not a house in june/july they will be forced to close. they obviously cannot have that.

Well that is a BIG SHAME that we have to see yet another revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Patti Lupones awful Mamma Rose in yet another revival of Gypsys and we cant get a NEW MUSICAL in here? For the love of Christ, this makes no sense. I'm sure the Tale of 2 Cities producers wouldnt pass up the St. James or Brodhurst given the chace...but NO we have to see yet another revival of the same ol' stuff.
Revival's of shows like COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA or JOURNEY'S END or THE FAITH HEALER or SEASCAPE...these REALLY GREAT plays havent been done in 30-50-hell 70 yrs...that i whole heartedly understand and can get behind.
But when you are reviving something for the 3rd or 4th time within a 30 yr time frame...GIVE IT A BREAK and let new theatre live!

Wow!
I guess you were the only one who thought is was AWFUL.
Nice way to slam Patti for no reason.

Posted: 12/30/07 at 3:35pmmy intent was not to slam patti - and far from the only one who thought she was an underpar Rose...but that wasnt my argument here. I loved Patti in ST, so I'm not a patti hater. Not my point.

Right.
Because XANADU, THE LITTLE MERMAID, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, CRY BABY, PASSING STRANGE, IN THE HEIGHTS, and A CATERED AFFAIR aren't new musicals.
Edit: And if you count OFF-Broadway I could name a dozen more.

Years ago, I got a demo from the composer of this show when I had a website called lostmusicals.com. I'm looking forward to this show never minding where it plays. Frankly, I'd prefer it to be in a smaller venue, but then again, I haven't seen it staged.

"I'm sure the Tale of 2 Cities producers wouldnt pass up the St. James or Brodhurst given the chace"
I've been backstage at the Broadhurst and I don't think there's enough room to house the set they were using in Florida. I can't say about the St. James.
But they're pushing for early '09 now.

Posted: 1/29/08 at 11:40amMan. I thought it was going to come this year. You'd think it would since they already have it up and running enough to do that tryout in Sarasota (I wish I'd been home so I could have gone and seen it!).
#15re: A Tale Of Two Cities Coming?
Posted: 1/29/08 at 12:35pmI wonder if it will take the Nederlander once it's fixed up.

I don't think the nederlander is big enough for the show. It was primarily a Straight play house before RENT.
As far as TOTC is concerned, I bet that there will be an out of town tryout one more time to tweak the show. The show was set to open at the Cadillac in Chicago a few years ago, so perhaps they will try that.
Plus, there will probably be some cast changes, and definitely some additions (I am assuming the college students who rounded out the ensemble in Sarasota will not be in the B'way prodcution). I would imagine that they will want a chance to really polish everything before they hit the main stem. With a show like this that has been years in the making, there really isn't any reason to leave anything to chance.
As far as houses- There is at least one (if not more) PALACIAL house that is going to be having some vacancy in the next 12 months. I wouldn't be surprised to see it end up there.

They were all given the chance to audition. Whether or not they'll actually get cast is a different story.

Posted: 1/30/08 at 12:45amYankee Fan can't resist any opportunity to bash this show. Yankee Fan often makes clueless pronouncements about the show never coming into Broadway- as if Yankee Fan knows something the producers don't know. Yankee Fan has nothing to do - maybe because the Yankees aren't playing.

And I was just waiting for that snide remark. Someone always delivers.
