On Saturday, I saw both War Horse and Book of Mormon. (I bought tickets for these back in early May, and got pretty lucky with my seats since I only needed a singleton.)

WAR HORSE was visually stunning. I was in awe of the horses and their majestic beauty which is due both to the design and the manipulation. As for the play itself? Meh. It was preditable and trite. (I found myself bored and rolling my eyes in Act II.) The amount of sheer YELLING and other loud noise added to my disinterest as well. Why did we need the story of the little girl? (and all she did was scream her lines, then her mother came on stage and screamed, too.) I thought the actors were to be commended in their commitment, and their sense of ensemble was beautifully obvious.

BOOK of MORMON on the other hand, was a delight. I'd listened to the music a few times, and was a little apprehensive going in, could I laugh at all the things brought up? Yup. I could. And I did. A lot. This show is a hoot and a delight from the begining chord. I don't ever remember having THIS much fun in a theater. It has fun with religion but stays on this side of MAKING fun of religion. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it. Due to my seat (B11) there was definitely things I could not see and of course, that's always disappointing. (And even with a speaker just feet over my head -- it wasn't as "loud" as War Horse -- and I was in the loge at the Lincoln Center!)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
