Ginger Rogers and Pearl Bailey duke it out for who does better with "Before the Parade Passes By"!

Who wins? YOU DECIDE!
Neither wins. Barbra has always been the winner.
Well, then here's Barbra as you've never seen him before.

And for those who like their Dollys embalmed while they're still alive, here is Carol on her 1978 tour:

Always imitated never duplicated
Anyone interested in what a Beth Leavel Dolly would be like?
Here's her "Before the Parade":

And here's her...um...
DOLLY RUN THE WORLD
^^^^ I saw that revival, PJ, and found Channing charming. (The bigger problem was the rest of the cast who had been doing the show on the road with her for years: the "Waiter's Gallop" was more like the "Waiter's Stroll".)
But that lighting on video! The first part looks like a scene from HELLO, DOLLY Z: ZOMBIES IN YONKERS.
I just watched this again. The YouTube poster who did the mash-up deserves an honorary Tony.

You can't help but notice that Pearl takes every line a little bit late.
Good Lord, what was going on with Carol Channing's wig!
That Dolly Run the World mashup was better than the show, which I saw n Cape Cod. Beth Leavel was great, but the supporting cast, ouch. Jennifer Cody was a spriteful Minnie Fay, but I still can't get over her eyebrows. If I hadn't read the playbill, I wouldn't have recognized her.

That usually annoys me. Bernadette Peters does it all the time, and it makes my skin crawl.
Is that what singers call "backphrasing"? Or is that something else entirely?
I think that's back phrasing, but since I learned the term here, I'd love to know for sure.
