Lillias as Dorothy.

I stand corrected.
I'd love to hear her "Home"
My parents saw Lillias White as Dorothy when the national tour came through to the Paramount Theatre in Oakland (I have the program in my old bedroom). The funny thing is, when she saw the TV broadcast of South Pacific, my mom instantly remembered her.
An omission on that Wiz site under "other productions" is the Australian Production which opened on February 7, 1976 in Melbourne and was the first production outside of NY. It was impossible to cast the show all black here and so we had black principals and a white chorus. There were two outstanding imports brought in for the show Andrea Frierson (Once On This Island) was Dorothy and Victor Willis (who a year later became the first lead singer with the Village People) was the Tin Man. The Australian production was a reproduction of the Broadway show.

Speaking of the Dutch production, has anyone checked out clips/recordings of the show on that site? I was really blown away! The crowds were so responsive and the cast was phenomenal. The Dorothy is amazing. The take on the show seems great to me. That's the kind of production I'd like to see if they revived, it was just fantastic.

The second picture is very similar to the monkey scene in Wicked.
Aha! So they pinched that idea!
Craig Zadan and Neil Meron should produce a made for TV version.
To anyone who saw the Original production of The Wiz:
Is the first image of the Tornado Ballet?
Yes it is. When they performed the dance a black gauze scrim was flown in down front, this was lit in subtle blue light which gave the illusion of dust in a storm.
I still say the La Jolla Wiz was one of the best shows I've ever seen, though I did not see the original production. I liked the updates and the new orchestrations and vocal arrangements were phenomenal.

CATS-
Let's not speak of that travesty in a thread about the amazing original production (Yea, I know, I didn't see the original, but anyone who looks at those pictures and says "that's not amazing" should be shot)
