A crazy dream I had...

A crazy dream I had...

When you were sleeping at night, did you ever have one of those fantastic dreams that you did NOT want to wake up from, because you thought it was TOO good to be true?

Did you ever have one of those dreams come back to you that have gone away for a long time?

Well, both of those things happened to me.

Last night I dreamt (a lot of things, but this was probably the best part of everything that happened) I saw a stage version of Alice in Wonderland (yes, the Disney version, so haters, please do NOT comment) at the Palace Theatre (a limited run) on Broadway. And even then, I couldn’t believe what I saw. It was so unbelievably good. Not a line or lyric was changed, and ditto the orchestrations (Sidenote: they had a 28-piece orchestra). And the Alice was great, too. I only wish I could’ve dreamt I saw the whole hour-and-25-minute thing (but if I had, I would’ve been asleep until 11:00 AM). The whole dream stopped at about the end of the song “In A World Of My Own.” So I’d just have to use my imagination and see how they would do the rest of it.

• A projection of the White Rabbit’s reflection in the babbling brook
• Lighting effects as Alice is “falling” down the rabbit hole, and the apron flips up at one point
• Doorknob puppet, disembodied voice
• Some more projections as she is sailing in the bottle and lands on the sand for the “Caucus Race” scene
• Tweedledee and Tweedledum – well you’d know how they do this
• Walrus and the Carpenter: Tweedledee and Tweedledum would do all the voices for shadow puppet projected in the back
• We’ll Smoke the Blighter Out (maybe they would use a fake giant hand and a fake giant leg and a fake giant everything for the giant Alice, and maybe use an offstage mic that picks up whatever she says)
• The whole flower choir thing
• The Caterpillar (a really big puppet, and for the smoke effects, they’d have to use a very sophisticated projection system)
• SERPENT!!! (lighting effects for the growth, and really miniscule backgrounds)
• Cheshire Cat (maybe a blacklight puppet or something)
• Mad Tea Party (well, you probably get the gist of this)
• Tulgey Wood (some more blacklight puppets)
• Queen of Hearts (you could probably have almost everyone that had a part earlier as different characters come back as cards, and if they can’t get enough cards, they could just use mannequins, like in THE PRODUCERS)
• And the end…

I distinctly remember dreaming this in 2003, and I’m glad this dream came back 5 years later. Maybe it could’ve had to do with my putting the song “Golden Afternoon” in my head before I went to sleep. Either way, it was great. Anyone who thinks this was an interesting dream, please comment. If anyone doesn’t, then just be quiet.

I apologize for my rudeness, it's just that I know there's a lot of Disney haters on this board, and I am quite aware of that. But I notice nobody has commented, so I guess nobody is interested. If nobody comments on this thread for the rest of the day, I'll have to ask someone to delete it.

I was in a stage version of Alice in Wonderland. It was fun. I don't know if I'd want it on Broadway, though.

Well, let's be thankful it was only a dream. re: A crazy dream I had...

Do we have a deadline to comment on your dream everyday or just today?

Alice in Wonderland was on Disney Channel on Easter, and the whole time I was watching it I was wondering how it would look on stage. The effect of Alice falling down the whole would be sooo hard to acheive on stage.

I know there's a Broadway Jr. version of the show at MTI, and I think I remember reading it's actually one of the more difficult shows in their Jr. selection because the music can be complicated and there are many different locales and a variety of inhabitants of Wonderland.
