I really wish they'd make a studio recording of this unique and complex score. People really need to hear it as it's unlike anything Kander and Ebb have written.
Can it just transfer? Maybe producers should give intelligent theatre a chance? We've had enough crap.
I would love to see the show open on Broadway, but don't expect it to do well. It's not one of their better scores (it lies somewhere between Kiss of the Spider Woman and Steel Pier) and the story will be rather difficult for the average audience to digest. But I do think it is intriguing and deserves a solid Broadway production. I think it's perfect for Lincoln Center.
I think it stands right alongside Cabaret and Chicago and think it's easily the best score they wrote post-Chicago. It might come into its own someday. Maybe a London theatre would take a chance on it. Or an opera house.
