Actually, with all due respect, you are very much mistaken. This cast is SIGNIFICANTLY different.
Yes, Amber Iman is new to the production, replacing De'Adre Aziza as Nina Simone / Odetta, but other changes are::
Alison Cusano is now the Janis alternate, replacing Kacee Clanton. Alison was the swing / cover previously.
Katrina Rose Dideriksen is now the swing / Janis cover, replacing Alison Cusano.
Shinnerie Jackson plays Bessie Smith, replacing Teprena Michelle Austine.
The only actors continuing with the production and remaining in the same roles are Mary Bridget Davies as Janis, Nikki Kimbrough as Etta James and NaTasha Yvette Williams as Aretha.
They also eliminated one track: The African American swing.
So…
8 actors, cut down to 7.
3 actors stayed and in the same role.
3 actors are new to the show, 1 actor changed roles.
That means the bulk of the cast is new.
(I would love to see Katrina Dideriksen, who is a really amazing singer… and I am sad to see that the production lost Teprena Augustine and Allison Blackwell, both of whom are incredible.)
