I think Gypsy is a show that most people enjoy. NOT necessarily the current revival (though I love it), but the show overall.
Even if it's Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daley, Bernadette Peters, etc. There seems to be at least one version that causes people to like it.
It's one of those shows that define "Broadway."

Maybe true-but we're not talking about the all-time favorite. We're talking about the shows that most people who see it tend to like.

I didn't hear anything really bad about Les Mis when it came out.

They eventually just fell victim to that "everyone is tired of you go home" sort of boat. (Beacause everyone saw it 3 bloody times!)

Phantom and Cats are similar in that way, and even though so many people are passionate about hating cats, you have to respect its popularity of it in its time.

Nug.Mon. is completely right. Wicked is in the process of being ruined by teeny boppers. When it becomes my drama club's field trip choice, it's finished.

I'm surprised it took you all until the second page to mention LES MISERABLES!!!!!!

Oh and about Ave Q. My friend can't stand it. He went and saw it and hated it, and he's such and easygoing open minded person. I haven't seen it though...so I'll stop bad mouthing it
