re: A weekend of weddings on broadway for All_For_Laura

Laura is dull and has trouble acting. I have seen her three times, and it is very true that she easily becomes bored with the character she is playing. No one stands out as being filled with talent except for Felicia Finley who has a great voice. Spanger has a lovely voice from the recordings I have heard of her recordings, but she really didn't do a great job today.
...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...

it's funny... cause.. you're TOTALLY entitled to your opinion, but I just find the cast of Wedding Singer to be one of the MOST talented casts i've ever seen. I mean, if amy spanger and felicia finley werent enough (because they're both like.. godesses!! and INCREDIBLE in EVERYTHING they do haha), Stephen Lynch!? hehe.. sorry.. i've kinda adored him for 5 years now <333. Not only is he freaking HILARIOUS, but he, unlike a lot of singing comedians I think, can ACTUALLY sing, really really REALLY well, and.. he's incredibly hot!! hehe. And, to top it all off, I've heard, and can definitely believe, that he is a total sweetheart and the stagedoor and everything. And I actually REALLY love laura, I just think she's absolutely adorable and has an amazingly gorgeous voice.

But, again, its all just opinion, and you have absolutely every right to yours! I just found it interesting because the cast is so MUCH why I am in love with the show. haha. And I also happen to adore the music too :) I guess maybe if you dont like synthesized type 80s music it can probably be a bit of a turn off though.

We all have our own opinions on shows and such, that's why I'm not going to attack All_For_Laura for liking Lestat or The Woman in White or not liking my favorite show of the season but you can't say the cast of The Wedding Singer lacks talent. They are so talented; Amy, Stephen, Laura, Kevin, Felicia, Matthew, Rita--and they all give one hell of a performance.

P.S.--I think David Zippel's lyrics are far from brillant. That's just my opinion though.

Amy Spanger is one of the best performers I've seen live, in The Wedding Singer and Feeling Electric. Maybe she was having an off-night, but she's filled to the brim with talent.

Laura Benanti has a lovely voice, while it may not be well suited for an 80s pop score, she still does, in my opinion, a great job with the material and is not talentless. She's a Tony nominee! I thought she sounded wonderful in Nine. And you yourself said you liked her in Into the Woods. Not enjoying a certian performance does NOT equal lack of talent by any means.

EDITED for grammar.

Laura Benanti's "Unusual Way" was, by far, the most beautifully performed ballad on a Broadway stage that I have EVER seen.

She is an incredibly talented singer and actress and a fantastic Julia.

I am sorry, but she cannot act, and her singing is competent. Cinderella is not a hard role to play.

Her singing is competent? Have you ever heard her sing "Unusual Way"? I never liked that song until I heard her sing it, and now it's one of my favorites. It brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. Maybe TWS score doesn't showcase her true talents but if you've heard her in her head voice, you'll know her voice is gorgeous.

Okay, enough with the scathing attacks. I am entitled to my own opinions.

I sat front row for nine, and I didn't like her in the role. Enough said. I am not going to cry listening to her Unusual Way cause IMO it is not good. Sorry for being opinionated, but the rest of this board is.

Your comments are not going to make me love her anymore. I am sorry she has to be in such a terrible show.

re: A weekend of weddings on broadway for All_For_Laura

I'm not trying to make you love her. I understand not liking performances. BUT its an entirely different thing to call her talentless. At least acknowledge that she has ability. If she didn't, she wouldn't be on stage at all.

re: A weekend of weddings on broadway for All_For_Laura

I never called her talentless. I said she lacks talent, not meaning she is completely talentless. She sings well, not great or memorably though, thanks.

As FOAnatic mentioned earlier, I would just like to remind you that that's simply your opinion, and not actually fact! And that's totally and completely fine if you feel that way about her- if everyone had the same opinions about people the world would be a very very boring place. However, when you're making negative comments about someone, it can be really hurtful to them and their fans if you state your opinion as fact. The truth is, its not fact, it's only your opinion. If laura WAS only a mediocre singer, she would most DEFINITELY not be on Broadway. NO ONE on broadway is mediocre- they're the best of the best vocalists, even if not everyone personally loves them. So, again, if you feel that way about Laura, no problem, but please, don't say it like it's a proven fact, because it is most certainly not! And that obviously goes for everyone, not just laura, not just the cast of Wedding Singer, but everyone.

Ok, I promise I'm done lecturing now :) and please, feel free to lecture me if I ever start doing the same thing, because I'm fairly certain I will at some point! haha

What comes out of my mouth, rather what my hands type is obviously an opinion. I am stating an opinion, but it is fairly futile to continuously write IMO etc etc. I am not brandishing a fact, I am exatiating on my feelings. So if any of you mistakenly took my opinions to seem factual, they were not. Sorry for the miscommunication.

re: A weekend of weddings on broadway for All_For_Laura

First of all: I was at both the matinee and evening show yesterday. Yes, I'm a Wed-head. It called for some quality time at the theater.

Secondly: Amy Spanger was INCREDIBLY sick yesterday. She has byfar one of the most vocally demanding roles on Broadway right now. Every performance she is DRENCHED in water. She belts pretty damn high and dances while she does it. The girl needs kudos for that. On top of that, she delivers a stellar performance even when she can't hit the notes because she's sick. Her night off last night was deserved so that she could rest up. Cara's wonderful in the role as well. But to not give Amy credit for her INCREDIBLE amount of talent is insanity. She was losing her voice and trying so hard to cling to it. Sh*t happens. She's only human. As are you and I.

Thirdly: Laura is far from bored. And was far from bored yesterday. Maybe it was me screaming in the front row that did it, but she was more wild than I've ever seen it. She was having so much fun on that stage, doubly so in the evening. Laura is always taking new risks everytime I see the show and has come to shine so beautifully. Hell, the girl even got entrance applause last night. (Well... all her groupies were there, so what do you expect?)

Fourthly: The ensemble of this cast in insanely talented. The dancing and the energy it takes to perform that show once a day let alone TWICE a day is enormous. I give them so much credit everytime I see the show and everytime I leave completely in awe of them. Maybe you need to see it from the front row to see them all drenched in sweat to realize what their bodies are going through, but it is really unbelievable how dedicated they are and how incredibly talented they are.

Byfar one of the most talented and hard-working casts on Broadway. And none of them phone their performances in because everytime I see it - and I've seen it 12 times - it is a completely different show.

trash, I couldn't agree more with everything you said.

I missed you by two days! But, I'm already planning on going back in a few days.

I loved the show and have loved Laura for years.

I gave her flowers after the show and she wrote the sweetest note to me on my poster. And agreed to marry me re: A weekend of weddings on broadway for All_For_Laura

Laura is one of the kindest, sweetest and most genuine people in the world. I am so blesse to be able to call her my friend.

I wound up giving her the scrapbook a little early and she cried when she read it.

Foa, we'll have to go back and see the show together at some point.

Steve, I don't know why you posted on this thread, because we talked about it. I understand all of those aspects. I really apoligize for not liking it. I apologize more for saying openly that I didn't like it. I applaud the cast, and will, but I really just didn't like it, nor did I enjoy the music. Sorry.

YES!! apparantly Amy has been very sick lately- and even has to go on vocal rest for a while. (I'm just hoping she's back by july 9th, when I'm going! haha). So, if she wasn't up to the par she sets in her recordings and such, thats mooore than likely because she was sick, and sick in the way that drastically effects your voice. She basically blew her voice completely- so... yeah. She's probably much better vocally than what you saw All_For_Laura :)

just had to say that cause... its not fair to judge someone that unbelievably talented on a night when they're loosing their voice, right? haha

Oh yeah, I learned that today, so I'm sorry for judging Amy. What I have heard of her I love, and I really hope she gets well soon. It is really hard to get sick while doing a show, but the rest period is needed. Best wishes to her.
