Final post:
Here is the original thread that I was posting about.
Thread
Just end it here. Nothing was said wrong. No one caused any trouble. Just a misunderstanding and a clashing of two opinions, that's all.
I personally think that Susan is a gorgeous woman, just some pictures do not flatter her, and make her look like she can't handle the role. I'm talking about the wrinkled face, to be specific. The headshot is a nicer picture and made me think twice about whether or not she could do it, and now I'm thrilled about her taking over.
It's all about opinion. No one here should be jumping on anyone's back about what THEY think.
THE END.

It may be just me but I think she looks fine. Then again, I'm 38. :)

So do I! I love Susan. I think she would make a fabulous Millie.
Who cares how old she looks - or even how old she is! Susan Egan is a fantastic actress and a stunning vocalist and I'm sure she will be wonderful in this role.
And it would hardly be unprecedented for someone to play a role on Broadway far younger than their actual age. Think about Ethel Merman in Annie, Get Your Gun, Mary Martin in The Sound Of Music or Julie Andrews in Victor, Victoria.
(As long as it does not look as ridiculous as Glenn Close as Nellie Forbush in the TV movie of South Pacific. That was the definition of miscasting.)
i think it would be VERY interesting if someone "in the know" diagrammed the many routes the central role took as MILLIE workshopped regionally and previewed out of town...i thought i had heard the Darcie Roberts tributuary before, which would make her the real queen of "almost came in" along with her time in COPACABANA and BUSKER ALLEY. And was Kristen Divaweth ever associated with the show? Miss Dorothy seems tailor-made for her. Who can fill us in?!?!?

Cheno was playing Millie until she landed her stcom and she then dropped out of Millie
Erin Dilly assumed the role then and dropped out just before the LaJolla Tryout
Sutton assumed the role then.
so Darcie was never in it until the first national? could have sworn i heard otherwise. i knew Dilly had done. It's weird to picture Kristin in the Millie role when Miss Dorothy seems so much more like her, from looks to comic timing to vocal strengths.

Darcie played Millie in one of teh early workshops and was offered a slot as a cover for Sutton Foster on broadway, but she declined in hopes that when the show toured, they would ask her to play Millie

And they did and she is awesome!

Let's get these facts straight first...
I dislike the very thought of TMM, a pandering piece of less than brilliance that ever bounced its way on the boards.
I don't care a hoot about the Mss. Foster or Eagan, neither of whom hold a flicker of true theatre talent.
Now, I'm surprised no one has mentioned that it's a general fact that the stage itself can make anyone easily look 20 years younger than their true age.
Ergo, why would anyone even care if anyone is too old? That's the magic of the theatre, folks.

No problem...your posts are very interesting.
i think i'd like a MILLIE background book like HAIRSPRAY's, but that traces all the readings and regional workshops and etcetera. Still having trouble picturing Kristin or even Erin Dilly in the title role instead of in Miss Dorothy. In one of her tour interviews, Darcie said she did a reading circa 1996, auditioned for B'way-bound, but didn't get it. i've seen the standby/cover for Sutton, and she is nothing physically (and only slightly vocally) like Darcie or Sutton, both of whom have many similarities. It's just interesting, whether everyone deems the show itself worthwhile or not.

Even a man who stick to his guns for no reason? Sounds like he is perfect for you.
