i really like Willemijin's voice. It has not been that long since the show opened. I wonder why she has left already.

WishingOnlyWounds cared. MANY people here listen to the foreign recordings of "Wicked."
Willemijn Verkaik-She's a Dutch actress. Title role in "Elisabeth" in Thun, Switzerland. Killer Queen (and she also went on as Scaramouche a few times) in Cologne "We Will Rock You." She's from Nuenen (near Eindhoven). ELPHABA IN STUTTGART "WICKED"! Recorded the OSC of "Wicked." She's VERY popular in the Netherlands/Germany. Who knows, maybe she'll come over to New York for a few months because Amsterdam is not until late 2009, when they finish building the theatre (yep, no theatre in the Netherlands can hold "Wicked," so they have to build one. Oh, yeah, it's SOOOOOO not important at all to Broadway or theatre. They just have to make the largest theatre in Dutch history in the centre of Amsterdam for it. Like that's SOOOOO not groundbreaking).

I'm sure it is groundbreaking. But the more important matter here is the thread title. It's long. It doesn't need to be.

It started previewing on 1/11 and yes I like Sabrina (and Roberta too), but they can just not compare with Willemijn. She will probably be doing the Dutch production. PM me for info, or we can do a chat. PM me if you want me to send info or if we can do a group chat, because that'd be cool, too.

*This just in. Willemijn was in New York in early September (around the 5th and 6th). Hmm, doesn't that seem strange. The star of the German production of "Wicked" in New York for the first time. I smell a transfer. Ja, ich bin SO glücklich! (Ich tanze!)

I doubt it, since you just posted another thread saying Marcie Dodd was taking over for Kerry Ellis.

Doubt what. I read Willemijn's diary ALL the time.

She won't be taking over. Marcie is only a temp & being replaced by someone NEW to Wicked, has been on Broadway ONLY once, & has a TV career. Wabam the sign points to Nicole Parker.

I doubt she's transferring. Especially if the Nicole Parker rumors are true.

Some AMAZING clips of Willemijn in "Elisabeth". This was from an open-air production in Thun (near Berne) in Switzerland in summer 2006.

What a coincidence that Roberta Valentini (the lovely Italian standy for Elphaba in Stuttgart; www.robertavalentini.com) was Gräfin Esterhazy in the Thun production. It looks like it was a WONDERFUL production.

There was a rumor way back when that she would be coming to Broadway... and she is fluent in English.

I know, that's why I said she was in New York in September. (She was, check her diary, if you can speak German.) Yes, she speaks Dutch (her mother tongue), German (according to Lucy Scherer, better German than her, a Munich girl), and English (English is a required subject in Dutch schools). She is mostly using her German now, because she lives in Germany, but she will write to you in Dutch or English, also. (I write to her sometimes, and she's good about responding). She probably uses Dutch for her friends in the Netherlands and her family, English for Anglophone fans and when she went to New York and probably when she goes to England or any Anglophone country (I don't know if she's gone to England and Australia to see "Wicked" there). She would be an EXCELLENT choice for Broadway Elphaba. It makes sense.
Amsterdam "Wicked" Will Start in Around September '09
She leaves Stuttgart in December '08
Give her spring-July in New York
Allow her to go to Amsterdam to rehearse for a month and then jump into Amsterdam performances
The only things she'll have to learn are the new lyrics, unless they change up the choreography. Besides, Dutch is her mother tongue, so it may be easier than the German production. I SOOOOO want to go to Amsterdam to see the Dutch production. I was just there in August, but "Wicked" wasn't there yet. I would definitely go back JUST to see "Wicked" (well, I'd do other things, too), but I'd like to go back even without "Wicked." It's a lovely city, very friendly people.

for those of you who don't speak German I said
Bavarian German is not really German.
I hope she comes to NY for Wicked. Is Amsterdam Wicked the next Wicked production?

Actually, by the time she leaves I believe Willemijn will have been in Wicked for just over a year. Nice healthy run as things go, and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of her in the Wicked world if Amsterdam happens and if, please Broadway Gods, she transfers to Broadway to be Elphaba.
I do actually like Sabrina Weckerlin a lot, I think she's very talented and would make a brilliant Elphaba, but I thought she was doing that Marie Antoinette musical in Bremen with Roberta? That's meant to be opening in early 2009 - EDIT: according to the website, the European premiere is in January 2009 so Sabrina would only be Elphaba for a month! Of course, this all relies on my attempts to read German so I could be totally wrong and just have made a massive fool of myself. It won't be the first time I daresay.

No, you're right AnaEvianne, it opens in January. I'm guessing that Roberta Valentini (robertavalentini.de) Stuttgart understudy since the opening will be Sabrina's replacement. She's Italian, but she was born in Nürnberg. She's really good. Especially, her "Gutes Tun."
Amsterdam is happening. Look on http://www.wickedthemusical.com.au/wicked/AboutWICKED/WICKEDhistory_eight.htm
It's also been in press releases on BWW, Playbill, and Broadway.Com. If you want to know EVERYTHING about Amsterdam, PM me. I know all about it's history from how it was scheduled, but it keeps getting delayed, but it will be playing by the end of 2009. PM me if you're interested.
