Wilma !!! - and she is predicted to hit South Florida. Though the storm will hit the west coast first - it's going to move across Florida so fast that the east coast will be hit just as hard.

My parents now live in central Florida, and even they are thinking of leaving town for the weekend. Ack. Sending LOTS of good thoughts that way! =)

My parents are on a cruise ship in the middle of the Caribbean right now and I have no way to get in touch with them. I am pretty nervous right now. Best wishes to everyone in this storm's path!

Listened to various scientists & meterologists discuss this & they said that these come in cycles & global warming plays a very small part. Was Global warming responsible for the dust bowl in the 30's? What about the earthquakes ? Mother Nature is & always will be unpredictable

To those worried about global warming, are you willing to sacrafice by driving less, giving up SUV's, curtailing the use of air conditioners on hot days? It is easy to blame global warming but who wants to make the huge sacrifices entailed with alledgedly stopping it

To those interested, the Kyoto agreement was defeated in the Senate by a unanimous vote during Clinton's Presidency. "Developing" countries like China & India would be exempt & could pollute away to their hearts content while we bear the brunt of the sacrifice.

There are no easy answers. We have always had hurricanes & I am quite sure if one were to check they had just a severe a season 40 or more years ago

We can all hope & pray the loss of life & property is kept to a minimum. Friends of ours just moved to Florida recently so we have someone to worry about ourselves

Kel - my parents went through a hurricane on one of those ships, and they did just fine (not that they'd want to repeat the experience, mind you!) Those ships are tough, so I don't think you need to worry - but I'm sure it will feel much better when you can know that they are out of harm's way.

DG, thanks that does help, but I am still a little nervous about it all. To add to it they are in suite #6660. They were already nervous about having that room, I have a feeling that my father will swear off cruising for life.

Yes to all of the above. Done them all. And I wasn't saying global warming was the sole cause of this, but global warming -- whether it's manmade or natural -- is happening and it's not a stretch to speculate that it's a factor. I'm aware of the "it's cyclical" argument, and while that's true that the number of storms is cyclical, I don't know that we have precedents for storms forming and becoming Cat. 5 hurricanes in a matter of hours.

Best wishes to your friends in Florida. I have family in Fort Myers, myself.

Oh, and Kel -- don't worry too much. Cruise ships will alter their courses however necessary to avoid major storms like this. They won't get anywhere near Wilma's path. Do your parents have an email address on the ship you could use, however?

This storm is driving me crazy - new predictions every few hours. It doesn't look good for Cancun and eventually South Florida.

My sweetie is on a cruise ship too (he is an actor onboard, I think I told you that already) and they dock and sail out of Florida but he has assured me that all is well and will stay that way...

So, don't worry, your parents will be very safe on their ship too. YOur parent's captain will take them out of harm's way or make them dock early if that is the only option. Besides, those ships are built to withstand a whole heck of a lot.

Dave called me last night complaining because their Captain likes to turn off the stabilizers in order to save gas. UGGH! Just the thought makes me queasy.

So, for the past week, Dave said they have been tossed around quite a bit. All in the hopes of saving a penny or two.

Anyway, back to the thread....All my best to those in Wilma's path...

i'm outside orlando, and have several friends that work in the news/radio media in the area said those of us in central/Northern part MIGHT get some heavy rain , nothing at all like last yr, my thought to those down south, PM me if you need a Amazing safe and cheep hotel to stay at in orlando, it were we have gone in the past when i lived right on the beach

I'm so over these damned Hurricanes. The scrambling to the market for water, to the gas station for gas, stocking up on non-perishables...OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER.

This anticipation is driving me crazy. It still hasn't made the projected turn so we don't know exactly where its going to hit. AAAuuughhhh!!!!
