Abraham Lincolns Big Gay Dance Party is coming to Off-Broadway this summer!!! HOORAY! I have been crossing my fingers for this news for MONTHS!
I saw it during their fantastic sold-out NYFringe2009 appearance (following their sold-out SF run). It is so funny, so smart, so witty, and so well-shaped. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PIECE OF THEATRE FOR ANYONE STAYING IN MANHATTAN THIS SUMMER!
I still wear the show-button on my backpack. Plus, one of the company young-guys, Michael Phillis, is a total cute dish!

The NYT has a short article about the 'culture war'
battleground in schools -
"FROM fourth grade to high school, at school board meetings and in state assemblies, temperatures are rising over censorship, control, religion and education. The battle over who teaches what, and how, has become one of the fiercest arenas of the culture wars.
Perhaps a big, gay dance party is what it will take to help the intractable sides find common ground.
In 'Abraham Lincoln’s Big, Gay Dance Party,' the playwright, Aaron Loeb, sparks a firestorm amid the cornfields of Menard County, Ill. The uproar happens after an elementary school teacher inserts a plea for gay rights into the mouths of 9-year-olds in the Christmas pageant."
NYT article.
I am so thrilled that it is coming to off-broadway :) I worked on a production of this show at the Connecticut Repertory Theatre and it was one of the best shows I have ever worked on. The playwright came to our closing night and it was so great to talk to him about the show.

Does this show contain any historical nudity?
Honestly, I'd go for the title alone.
