When are they going to announce the replacements for CZJ and Lansbury? June 20th is fast approaching.
Debbie Renolds- Madam Arf
IDK- Desiree
In 20 or 30 years, I'd see that.
Nope. I don't think I'd ever see that.

Given that we're barely a month away, and that there has been no announcement yet (which means they have ZERO advance beyond June 20), I have a very strong feeling the show will be closing on June 20.
Well, seeing that there is an Equity audition coming up in two days for this show, I have a feeling they are planning on keeping it open past June 20th.
Who knows, that may be a mandatory audition? And anyway, they're not casting those two roles from these auditions.

i kinda agree with adam, it really is close to the wire if they are going to extend.
I'd love for them to extend and replace the three principals with some good people, however, I'm with those who think the show will close June 20th.

$821K last week with an average ticket price of $115. I find it hard to believe they wouldn't at least TRY a replacement cast.
regardless of ticket price and amount of sales, the show doesn't do well without Angela or CZJ. remember the grosses from when either one of them was on vacation?

But if they replace them with actors with the star quality as them, they have no problem.

Absolutely- I understand right now CZJ and Lansbury are a huge draw- But there are lots of stars in the sky. I think if it were my money on the line, I'd try something. Hell, if I couldn't find names I'd cast two good actresses and cut ticket prices and see if we could run through September.
Then I don't know what they're waiting for. They're cuttin' it close!

That is MUCH easier said than done. Actors with the star quality of an Oscar-winning A-lister and a Tony- and Emmy-winning living legend generally are not willing to be replacements. And because of contract law, you can only offer the role to one actor at a time, which slows down the process considerably.

They have two good actresses cast as the understudies right now. They're not unknowns, either, they are pretty well-respected Broadway veterans. Every week that either Angela or Catherine was on vacation, the show lost money. I doubt it would be worth it to the producers to see if they could make it work until the end of the summer.

It's looking more and more likely that they're just going to close when their contracts are up.
I DID hear, however, that they were pursuing Gwyneth Paltrow and Blythe Danner for the summer. I'm guessing that deal fell through.
Well, according to Danner, Paltrow wouldn't leave London and her kids to appear on the show, which is quite a shame as I'd have loved to see what the two of them would have been like playing these two roles on stage.
Yes, it's a big money-maker, but what star is going to be willing to replace Catherine Zeta-Jones? I'm sure finding a replacement for Lansbury is much easier than getting a younger A-lister who's willing to be a replacement. It'd be great if it happened, I just think it's very very unlikely.
YOU GUYS ARE WAY TOO SMART!! Where do you get this inside information!!!
You all can stop now....It ain't extending.
Boo-hoo!
Haha, I know, it's almost sad how quickly irrelevant this thread became.
