Is anyone else having trouble viewing the opening night pictures on Broadway.com? Every time I try to see them, I get kicked off AOL and Internet Explorer.

Posted: 3/6/05 at 12:06pmWell now, there you have it. Margo didn't find flaw(at least nothing glaring), with this show either. I think I need to get back east sooner than later. Updated On: 3/6/05 at 12:06 PM

The show is just about an hour and a half and there is no intermission. I hope you enjoy it, Ken!

Posted: 3/7/05 at 1:31amI was at today's matinee and loved it even more the second time around. The cast was excellent as usual (Tyler was out but Daniel Torres did a great job in his first performance) and it's really just a well constructed and performed show. :)

Posted: 3/7/05 at 6:29pmI was at yesterday's matinee as well. Absolutely loved it, I'll definately be seeing that again. Daniel as an understudy was ok, but not great. He seemed not to know exactly what he was doing the whole time, but since it was his first perfromance, he is forgiven :) I've been told that Tyler is the one to see out of all the boys, so I'll definately have to check it out again with him. i would definately recommend it, what a fun show.

Posted: 3/7/05 at 6:46pmyea if you followed Daniel Torres journal on his website a day or two before he went on he just went through the number blocking for Mark and then he went on. I find that amazing and I hope to catch him in one of the roles

Posted: 3/7/05 at 6:59pmI saw Daniel go on during the 7pm performance last night and I thought he did an amazing job! He definitely held his own on stage and considering the lack of rehearsal time he had had and the last minute notice he was given, I think he's to be commended for even knowing where to stand during some of the numbers, not to mention all the laughs he was able to get. Can't wait to see what he'll be able to do once he's fully prepared!

Tyler had food poisoning, but should be back tomorrow.
I just saw the opening night video on Broadway.com.. Now I want to see the show again!

Posted: 3/8/05 at 3:12amI haev a lot of respect for Daniel ... he had a couple of hours notice, had really never rehearsed Tylers part as he was focusing on others and he still managed to go on, be amazing (most of the reviews I read were glowing) and not make any mistakes ... it may have seemed like he didn't really know what to go but a lot of people who were seeing the show for the first time didn't even notice he was an understudy ... I think its really impressive and he definitely deserves recognition.

Posted: 3/8/05 at 7:59ami think it goes with the job...jumping in when needed. I know ballet dancers that learn dances during a 20 minute intermission and go onstage if there are emergency cast changes.

Posted: 3/8/05 at 2:55pmI saw the show on Sunday (matinee) and I was really impressed with Daniel. I can't imagine the stress level for understudies esp. when you barely know the role!! I would be intrigued to see him in another role.

First post here ever!
Not a shill, but I'm afraid I might sound like one...
Just saw Altar Boyz this past Sat matinee (saw Shockheaded Peter that evening)
and I felt the same thrill I felt when I saw Urinetown and Avenue Q for the first time. I have got to see it again.
The only other shows I've felt compelled to see more than once are:
Caroline or Change
Urinetown
Avenue Q
Hedwig
Wit
Baz Luhrmann's La Boheme
A Chorus Line (yes, i'm 34, and no I don't fart dust...)
and...I'm not ashamed to say it: The Lion King
(okay, maybe a little bit ashamed...)
I would have seen some shows again if I'd had the chance
like 2nd Stage's recent Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Prelude to a Kiss, Elaine Stritch At Liberty, Only We Who Know the Secret...and "Spatter Pattern" @ Playwright's Horizons...
and there must be a few i'm forgetting, but...
i've forgotten them.
i thought Spelling Bee was enjoyable but it did not live up to the hype, and sadly neither did Bug.
just a little background on my bizarre tastes.
There have been other shows I found wildly enjoyable yet I did not feel compelled to see them more than once (The Producers, Intimate Apparel, Take Me Out, Wicked (stop looking at me like that...), Dame Edna...)
So...my point is...I'm sorry, what was the question?
Oh, yes...Altar Boyz...I want to see it again.
Call me sappy, but I was laughing through tears.
Avenue Q affected me the same way.
I know, i'm a sap.
I'll see it again, and let you know if the shine wears off.
I just had to post because I've just moved back to NYC after a 20 year absence (with visits every now and then for shows) and I've been gorging on theatre since i got back in September
and i was beginning to think I had lost the ability to be bowled over by a show. I thought i was jaded.
I thought i'd have to settle for a life of enjoyable, but not thrilling theatre, since I had crossed over the border into "the land of those who have seen too much to ever be as excited as they used to be because they have seen it all, and usually better."
glad I'm not there yet.
Although...I'm hoping (just like a theatre junkie, ever hopeful)
to soon be able to rave about something more "highbrow" like "Light in the Piazza" or "The Pillowman",
I'm not going to not rave about Altar Boyz
just because it has mass appeal.
For me, the more theatre I see, the more I treasure the shows
that I can't get out of my head once I leave the theatre.
As if you couldn't tell, this is one of those shows for me.
Have I mentioned that I liked it?
Now...I'll shut up.
<---slinks quietly back to chair in corner, sits with hands folded in lap, humming songs from show...

Bumping the ABz love to the first page. I need to see this show so badly... fortunately, my cousin's expressed an interest in taking me to see it, at some point, so there's a very good chance I will.
