A new one, "WOMAN IN WHITE", is supposed to open at the West End in 2004.
I'm not sure - but I think it's supposed to be based on a mystery thriller - a movie of that name and theme.

As Sharon1 said, the original story is from a novel by Wilkie Collins. It involves mystery, melodrams, and a crime. Updated On: 11/16/03 at 01:37 AM
Wasn't he at some point working on a sequel to Phantom of the Opera?
He was, and it was mentioned on the video of his birthday celebration. But there's been no talk of it since, so maybe he's shelved it.

Woman in White will open at the Palace Theatre late 2004.
Theres not going to be a Phantom sequel. The guy that ALW hired to write the sequel (I forget his name) didn't do a good job I guess so ALW just called it off. Well thats what I heard.
ALW is currently working on THE WOMAN IN WHITE with lyricist David Zippel (City of Angels, The Goodbye Girl, Hercules) and playwright Charlotte Jones. It is an adaptation of the classic novel by Wilkie Collins, author of "The Moonstone" (which is regarded as the first ever detective novel).
It is scheduled to open at the Palace Theatre, London next year when Les Mis moves to the Queen's Theatre.

I've read on a Brit theatre board that the PALACE THEATRE is being renovated right after Les Mis moves to the QUEEN'S THEATRE Andrew Lloyd Webber just bought the PALACE THEATRE when Les Mis transferred from the Barbican in early 1986 or thereabouts...and the show stayed and stayed, to his chagrin as he wanted to open PHANTOM OF THE OPERA there ![]()

I think its weird that Les Mis is moving form a 1500 seat theatre, to one that holds 900. Itll be much harder to stay open. My 2 cents.

Well I wouldnt be suprised if this new musical reminds alot of us of Sunset, the music in Sunset would fit right in a mystery detective musical. So I bet he steals from himself yet again.

It won't be harder, Cameron Mackintosh is in the process of buying the theatre Les Mis is moving to so it will play rent free. Besides, the current owner is Lloyd Webber so he will no doubt give CamMack a hefty discount as it has vacated the Palace Theatre to make way for HIS musical.. it's what ALW has wanted for ages.
I don't think the idea is a good one though, Les Mis is such a landmark where it is.. it's been there my entire life! It's moving to a house that only usually plays to limited season runs or things like Contact which close quickly.. the shows there never seem to do well. I think the reason it's there is so it can sell tickets on Les Mis's name.

WOW! i never knew about him going to make a sequel to POTO
According to info. found on another forum, Laura Michelle Kelly (of the West End's Whistle Down the Wind, Les Miz, etc.) will have a role in ALW'S WIW.
