OK - a huge ALW fan. But am I the only one who found that interview painful? Colbert and his music guy trying to sing snippets of ALW's music. What a waste of time

Ouch at all the hateful comments on the youtube video LOL. Does Stephen Colbert even like Webber? I remember he made some Webber jokes when Sondheim visited him before
My reaction was the opposite, 180. I thought Colbert was wonderful, as was (surprisingly, no chat show shoo-in, he) Sir Andrew. The plug for music education, the UK politics referencing context about "Evita," it was filled with new info. And when Colbert started in on Judas, the whole appearance turned a sweet, charming corner. ALW has brought joy to millions; parsing his contributions will go on forever. But hey, he even expressed something akin to awe fore "Hamilton." Good show, Colbert in great command, happy to see it.
I thought Colbert was enjoying himself immensely and was nearly giddy being able to sit there with ALW playing piano while he sang...
As for him dissing ALW while interviewing Sondheim: First, that was on The Colbert Report, so nothing he said was as himself to begin with and, second, he's still a comedian, so nothing he says is supposed to be remembered and brought up years later to try and ferret out hypocrisy, heh.

Doubtful that will make him close up shop. ![]()
I thought the singing parts were stupid, but actually enjoyed the interview portions. I think it would have been better if ALW juts played the tunes as they continued chatting rather than having Colbert song them.
Tuned in a bit late (missed the early part of the interview - but I DVR'd it so will check it out) but the whole portion where he asked ALW to play a few bars from songs and chimed in here and there seemed out of place and awkward to me. If Andrew had an hour long thing with him, that would've made sense. But in that format it was bizarre to me
Stephen seems fine being awkward and testing what works and doesn't in his new format yet...
I watched his Bill Maher interview recently and found it terse and awkward until the next day, he posted all 18-minutes of it, and you saw how they had to clip it down to nothing. So, he's definitely playing around and trying to find his groove...
Not sure why he's supposed to nail a job he's only had for two months, especially if you can't quite figure that stuff out until you're doing it
I feel like I remember Colbert throwing off a snarky line about ALW in the new show, but hell if I can remember what it is.
Cute enough interview. Anybody else cringe at the bit where Lloyd Webber is talking about how his titles make his name a tongue-twister and he says something like, "I certainly can't say it after 6 PM" very dryly?
Immediately flashed back to Pattti Lupone: "A sad man...and...an alcoholic?"

I attended a taping of The Colbert Report years ago and asked Stephen what his dream roles were given his training at Northwestern. They were Hamlet, Richard Ridge, Georges and Judas, so I'd say he holds ALW in some esteem!
