Mostly unfavourable comments on Dress Circle. I will as always make up my mind after I've seen her...

Sally, sorry, I only took a quick glance at the music last night. Lost Souls switches between 7/8 and 4/4 time.
Eastwickian -- were you at the matinee or the evening performance?
I'm no expert on arrangements, but this looks fine to me. It's your typical songbook, for voice and piano.

I agree with Eastwickian.........the version of The Holly and the Ivy in WIW is NOTHING like any of the versions I have ever sung around Xmas time.........it would be more fitting for Nightmare before Christmas

Which I think was the point ALW was trying to make...a foreshadowing of what Laura's life was going to be like married to Glyde.

Is ALW up too his old tricks? Gawd, I hope so. I love the music this man writes! Love it.
I hope his next show is a hit too. I hope to see he and Tim Rice working together again. That would be great!

Kec - I was at the evening show; I was half-tempted to try and make the matinee as well, but I had friends with me, and we were delayed getting in.
As others have said, I like the tone that the Holly and Ivy sets, though we already knew that Glyde was up to no good thanks to the fruitcake in white warning Walter about him. If I was a criminal mastermind etc, it probably wouldn't be the first choice of song for my wedding though...

Too bad you missed the matinee. Maria was, in her own words, "very naughty."
It seemed like the whole cast was playing subtle tricks on each other throughout the show -- things like paintbrushes for painting walls instead of watercolor brushes, some dancers doing semiphore signals during Lammastide, inmates escaping from the asylum... very funny.

Kec -
I think that is a usual tradition at the West End. They spice up the last matinees of major cast members leaving a show and the actors can hardly keep a straight face during hilarious moments.

Yes, Jo, I think it is. I was at the final matinee for the original cast of the London Chitty, and the antics that day were hysterical. There were even some similar antics during that evening's performance as well -- i.e. Nicola McAuliffe's Baroness checking Michael Ball's Caractacus's Doll costume for "batteries." Don't know how Michael kept still and stone faced through that "pat down." LD
At WiW, it was a bit more subtle. I think only those of us who had seen the show a few times got many of the pranks.
