The Wedding Singer deserved a nomination for best musical, so did The Woman in White. Just because people are unhappy because a show didn't get nominated, it doesn't mean you have to say that a certain other show doesn't deserve a nomination. I definitly think that Maria Friedman and Adam Brazier should have gotten nominations. The Wedding Singer is a great musical that had to be nominated, because it's great!

Yeah, Oprah definatly has connections to the Tony Awards... NOT! Where do idiots come up with these ideas!?

That is so stupid. Tarzan wasn't robbed of a thing. Maybe The Woman in White wasn't, either.

The Tony Awards are a group's opinions of the shows & the actors & everyone invovled. There is no right or wrong. Make your own awards if there is a problem.

I'm PISSED

The whole cast should have been nominated.

The story was GREAT..especially if you read the book.

Now the set wasn't all that...but it didn't deserve to be snubbed like that.

IT SIMPLY DIDN'T DESERVE THAT

I am not as upset about the show getting nominated as I am Maria not getting nominated. That is heartbreaking. I think that a lot of people think that, "Oh she's just gonna get nominated because she has breast cancer and has been through a lot" I think that the reason she deserved to be nominated is because of her talent, ambition, and determination that kept the show running for the time that it did. Although she did not get nominated, I think she will remain in a lot of people's hearts which is more important to me than a statue.

And muscle, I am sorry, but I disagree on Adam Brazier should have been nominated. I don't think he did that great of a job....He would be a GREAT Tarzan though.

I think Brazier was great. If I were to rework WIW though I would add more of Anne into the story so that Angela or someone as talented could have more stagetime. I think she deserved a supporting actress nom!

I think if they had stuck to their original plan - open in Chicago in November, come to NY in Jan - things could have been very different. They would have had a $6 million advance no matter what because of the ALW name alone. That would have kept the show doing good business till this time (of Tony Noms) and it probably would have had a bunch of nominations considering the competition really petered out.

Although there's some here who hate WIW, there would have been enough support from the Theatre community for it to do well.


BINGO chernjam, that's what I've been saying both on here and on the MBFC forum!

My saying that WIW should have stayed with the original schedule and previewed in Chicago has nothing (well almost nothing ) to do with the fact that I live in Chicago!

Every show that I know of that previewed in Chicago went on to become HUGE successes on Broadway, to name two, The Producers and Spamalot!

We'll never really know for sure now, however, that's my opinion!

They cancelled the Chicago preview because Ballw anted to go back to the UK by March.

Maria was robbed more than anybody else! I think she definately deserved it over Chtia Rivera and/or Sutton Foster.

The set design was robbed. It should have at least been nominated for being so inovative, interesting, and exciting.

Michael Ball also got robbed.

I'm happy it at least got best score. I *really* hope it wins it!

THE WOMAN IN WHITE was simply spectacular and was a lot more interesting to me than DROWSY, CP, JERSEY BOYS, LESTAT, WEDDING SINGER, TARZAN, & IN MY LIFE. I have no desire to see any of the others.

The preview in Chicago was cancelled because Michael Ball was doing PATIENCE for the New York City Opera and would have to be in New York during the expected rehearsal time for THE WOMAN IN WHITE ( following the announced previews and opening date for Broadway). Although at the time of the cancellation of the Chicago preview, it wasn't even sure that Michael would be signing up to be on board WiW.

If ever there was a show that was so robbed of a chance, it was this show - with hardly any publicity at all ( never heard of any meet-the-press for the cast announcement, no rehearsals-footage-on main media, no talk show appearances except for Maria talking about her illness, no ALW talking about it when he was in NYC for the Phantom celebrations, etc.). What did we expect????

The American producers ( Boyett Ostar) have already written off the costs for this show. After all, they must be grinning because they are producers for two of the shows with excellent odds to win a TONY -- THE DROWSY CHAPERONE ( which succeeded WiW at the Marquis) and HISTORY BOYS! Has there ever been a time when the same producers won for both Best Musical and Best Play in the same year?

Re ALW chances - at least, there is a cast recording of the London show that the TONY voters can listen to if they feel like giving it a real chance. How ironic!

In late December 2005 I e-mailed RUG, asking why they weren't publicizing the show and I received no answer when usually they e-mail you back within a day or two. They probably didn't respond because they knew what an awful job they were doing.

Though yes I think he was sort of robbed but it got a best score nomination. Be thankful for that id think. And the only reason Friedman didnt get nominated is because Chita Rivera got a nomination in the wrong catagory.

I know your're joking Chernjam (well mostly) but there's a ring of truth to that statement.

There was a great deal of finger-pointing going on with regards to the reason(s) for the closing. And there were many factors involved. But ALW did not support the show the nearly as much as he could have (although from what I have heard he had his reasons). He had a great opportunity to promote his new original Broadway musical while celebrating the triumph of Phantom becoming the longest running show on Broadway. Instead he actually went out of his way in interviews to avoid talking about WIW (in one interview he actually referred to "Beautiful Game" by name as "the show before my most recent one", and didn't even utter the words "Woman In White".)

Still, I'm pleased he got the nomination because the score deserved it. I am surprised that Maria did not get a nomination, but her category was tough. Michael's performance certainly merited a nomination (even giving the rest of the competition in his category), but the early closing and his absence at the end clearly killed any chance he might have had.

This show had one of the finest casts I've ever seen on stage at one time. They were uniformly excellent. Unfortunately, the Producers gave up on it before it opened and things went downhill from there.

I mean, I guess it's not enough to have the longest running show on Broadway, the second longest running show in the world, numerous trophies, awards, Grammy-award winning albums, sold out solo concerts, an ex-wife who's also famous, several successful (or at least million-dollar-making) motion picture adaptations of his Broadway productions, merchandise...yes, let us all shed a tear for the "robbed" Lloyd Webber. LOL

If ALW had been robbed at the right place and time, "The Woman in White" wouldn't have made it to Broadway in the first place. It was just a very average show. That said, Maria and Michael did their best and I could see someone thinking they were snubbed. I think Maria deserved a nod more than Chita for playing herself of all people -- she's a legend, but come on!
