ANDY KARL ON AS EMMETT IN LB TONIGHT!

Stopped by stage door after the matinee of LB to drop something off. Cast members informed me Andy Karl will be making his debut as Emmett tonight - completely random and unexpected, but I can't wait.

I believe it's split. I know Jason Gillman is the UPS Guy as he was going back in to rehearse, but I want to say Matthew Risch might be Dewey? I think Nick kenkels does the frat boy.

Phenomenal, amazing, gorgeous, fabulous, awesome. Insert any and all positive adjectives and you have Andy Karl as Emmett. I've never had as good of a time at Legally Blonde as I did tonight. SO amazing and memorable - rumor has it Christian Borle will be on vacation at the end of August, so everyone should go go go and see Andy on as Emmett when you get the chance again.

Andy did an awesome job as Emmett last night.From what I overheard at the stage door it sounds like Christian Borle was rehearsing for another show and hence why he was absent from the night performance. This is just what I thought I overheard!

Sadly I missed it but you can bet I'll be there when Andy Karl goes on during Christian's vacation. I heard it was a whole different show and that he was (for lack of a better word) amazing. Fishergirl, if you feel like pm-ing me some more about it, please do.

Jason Gillman covered Dewey and Kyle and was very amusing. He was funny in a different way, but it was still hysterical. Although no one does the Kyle walk like Andy Karl.

Rod Harrelson (a swing) was on as Grandmaster Chad and he was good. He even added in a backflip during his solo rap, which was kind of cool.

Andy was amazing. He acted the part incredibly well and created this whole relationship between Emmett and Elle from the very beginning. Even in the first scene between them, you could see how much he liked her and you watched his feelings grow for her as the show went on. By the time "Legally Blonde" rolled around, it was not surprising that he professed his love for her. He was also hilarious during certain line readings, most notably during the Red Bull line where he improv'ed and screamed "Ride the Bull" at the end.

ANd of course, his singing was awesome. His voice is gorgeous and he sung the part beautifully. Also, besides a minor line flub, he didn't mess up at all. Pretty impressive for someone who found at out 4:30 yesterday afternoon that he was going on and hadn't even rehearsed with the props yet.

Christian was apparently feeling vocally tired from "Catch me IF you Can" workshops and took off last night to ensure that he didn't strain his voice.

One of the swings, Rod, went on for Andy's background ensemble bits (Harvard student, in-mate in Whipped into Shape) and as Grandmaster Chad in What You Want. Jason Gillman went on as Dewey/Kyle, and was absolutely hysterical. Very different portrayed Kyle than Andy's...while Andy's is, at least in my opinion, more earnest and sexy, Jason's was full on, stripper-like strut, parody of himself type thing.

While Orfeh's chemistry is obviously much more on with Andy, she and Jason did well together, I thought. They were kind of giggly at numerous points, and that was VERY cute. OH! And the Riverdance was played off a little different...while Andy/Orfeh kind of play it in shock/awe of each other, Jason did it as sort of a seduction dance, swishing his hips and getting sex eyes, etc, and Orfeh reciprocated a bit. It was VERY funny.

Ruprecht, I will PM you in a little bit! Now that I've been able to sleep on it and formulate thoughts, I'll be able to say more than just OMGHEWASSOGOOD, haha.

One thing that stuck out to me and my friends last night about Andy's Emmett was that you really believed from the beginning that Emmett was falling for Elle. It's something I never truly understood with Christian Borle's portrayal (not to say I don't really like him in the show, because I very much do).

Awwww dernit... I would've LOVED to see this! I didn't find out till 8:30 last night that he was on, so it was a bit late. But my wallet loves me for not going, so I guess I'll survive.

Though you can bet I'll be there at the end of August....

fishergirl: I have to agree that, from what I've seen/heard, Christian Borle doesn't necessarily develop Emmett's growing feelings for Elle in the best manner. I'd love to see how Andy Karl handles it.

Fishergirl, THANK YOU a million times for your pm. I feel like I never have to worry about missing anything because I could actually see what you were describing. It helps to know the show as well as we both obviously do. I'm only writing this here because you don't accept pm's. :) What a completely perfect "review". Now I'm more sorry than ever that I missed it but I'll be there in Aug. If anyone finds out the exact dates, please post.
