ANNIE LENNOX FOR N2N!

Posted: 6/27/10 at 6:21pmThe idea she is she and Dan weren't much older than kids themselves when they became parents. Diana's pregnancy with Gabe wasn't planned and "neither was the marriage." Of course that can happen also to people in their 30s, but I think it makes more sense if Diana and Dan were still pretty young. I could look past the age thing, but it's imperative that both Diana and Dan are extremely well-acted.

Posted: 6/27/10 at 7:57pmThe script is also very specific about Diana being 22 when she gets pregnant with Gabe, so in order for her to be in her 30's when she got pregnant, they'd have to change the script. Because she was 22 when she got pregnant that places her in her very late 30's during the action of the show.

There's something called an age range, guys. Alice and Annie and Joan do not look much different in age. Annie could easily pass for her mid-40's (though that youtube clip is not the most flattering). I've seen her in concert twice (both times very close to the stage) and she's a gorgeous woman that looks great for her age.
She can act. It's hard to describe without it sounding cheesey, but when you see Annie live, she does something to her songs that... changes them. She breaks them down, lives them, eats them alive. Yes, a lot of crooners and pop starts can act a lyric, but Annie... she's pretty raw. Each song is an experience.
She'd be divine. It'll never happen. But a boy can dream.

Posted: 6/27/10 at 10:46pmI completely disagree with that. The songs that Annie writes are not your typical pop songs. Yes, she's got her fun rock numbers. But her ballads are extreme songs with incredible ideals. In my opinion, she is a singing actress and not a performer. And considering that the music and the lyrics are what drive it, I think she'd pull it off.

I realize that people might tar and feather me, but what about Idina? Just hypothetically. I haven't see her on stage recently so don't know about her acting chops having improved since the days of Wicked and See What I Wanna See.
Maybe she and Taye can be the next set of married replacements, although they probably both wouldn't want to do it because of their child.

Posted: 7/10/10 at 6:01pmI'm a huge Idina fan and she would kill it vocally, but she doesn't have the acting chops. Plus, Taye can't sing or act IMO and he has as much business playing Dan as Kristin Chenoweth.

I think Lennox is an inspired choice - take a look at this video:

I'm not Idina Menzel's biggest fan by any means (I find the level of fandom she's achieved sort of baffling,) but it's always laughable to me when people say she doesn't have "acting chops."
Her performance in SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE at The Public a few years ago (both vocally and dramatically) was absolutely stunning. She managed to form three distinctly different characters throughout the course of the show, and the nuanced pathos she brought to the song "Coffee" in the second act was remarkarble. It's by far the best work she's ever done.
Anyone who doubts her ability should look to that piece for the true testament of her talent. NEXT TO NORMAL (while she'd never do it) would be the perfect type of show to utilize the manic intensity she brings to the stage.

Posted: 7/10/10 at 10:12pmI never said Idina doesn't have acting chops. Wicked proved that she does. I just don't think they're strong enough for N2N. For what it's worth, I didn't see SWIWS.
