As much as I would love to see Antonique Smith as Mimi agan ( she was the Mimi when I had a habbit of seeing this show every chance I got and now the only reason why I would go back any time soon) I don't think its true. I would love for it to be. But, alas I don't see it happining. And besides her myspace and website are VERY up to date about things she is doing. And her blog on her myspace made it very clear that it was a one month gig. Apperenlty, she is working on an album and left the show to do that and now she is back becasue she has some free time in her schedule.

Body: Bad news for those of you who already purchased tickets to the April 7th show hoping to be there an support Antonique at her last performance that night: You may want to try and sell those tickets off if you were only going in support of her last night, because April 7th will be nothing more than your daily (although outstanding!) performance of RENT - *not* a final night on stage.

Good news is, you can buy tickets for April 29th instead Antonique has extended her stay with RENT for a few extra weeks, so if you haven't seen her yet don't worry - you've just been given more time!

April 29th is THE LAST DAY. There will be no more extensions on her part, as it's time to get back to work on that much-anticipated album. So one more time, sorry to those of you who already bought April 7th tickets with plans to show up - signs of support and all - for her last show... but now you have a few extra weeks to enjoy your favorite Mimi before it's all really over. Did anyone actually think she was going to leave after exactly one month? I doubt she has any other job offers.

Unfortunately, I'm going with a couple friends who are coming in from out of town on what would have been after her final day. Can someone please tell me why anyone enjoys her performance? I swear it all comes down to her friendly stagedoor behavior, because I really don't see anything redeeming in her performance.

i dont know her personally at all and i think theres some diva-ness to her i probably wouldnt like but that girl can sing like no other- i think her Mimi sounds absolutely fantastic.

that said, this is such a joke. RENT is so clearly her backup, she wishes she was a huge recording star and that doesnt seem to be working out, so she pops back into RENT for a lil bit, and then everyone gets all excited, and she "extends" because she has nothing better to do... its just such unnecessary drama.

April 29 may be her last but i ASSURE you she will be back next time they need her to fill in. she should find a role on stage that shows off her beauty and vocal power. ie move onnnn

Lawyerman, Antonique comming back to RENT is not at all because you think that she cannot strike it in the music world. I can assure you she can. And there is no diva ness about her whatsoever. She is by far THE nicest single actor on broadway right now. If you wanna think that she is doing rent again becuase you think she can't get anywhere with her music. Maybe I mean this is a crazy thought but maybe she loves the show and misses it? That ever cross your mind. I have seen Antonique more times in RENT than I am proud to say. I have seen her so many times that she personally knows who I am. Just because there was one green girl who prett much made it pubilc that she would rather be somewhere else and do her music don't mean that they are all the same.

But, I for one am so friggen happy because i thought i wouldn't get a chance to see her in the show again but now that she is extending I can.

And becuase I have never been with whats "cool" or not I am not afrade to say that I love rent.

I'm going to have to try real hard to be open minded and hope I luck into a super ON night for her. In the clips I've seen? She's either sounded awful, or good but clashing against the melody of the song.

What makes you think that? Really, I haven't seen an album or heard any possible release dates. Rent IS clearly a fallback for her. Countless of other performers have used Rent as theirs as well throughout the years, so I can't condemn her too much for it other than to say that it's quite pathetic that she couldn't even stay out of the show for more than a few MONTHS.

I don't know the story behind the "green girl," but if indeed leaked that she would rather be working on her album... well, there you have it. I'm sure she gave the album thing a shot, realized it wasn't working out, relealized she was out of a job, and then joined Rent for a special "one month" run. "To play the role as only she can!"... yeah.

Munk, what made you think she was great? I'm curious, because she's never struck me as anything more than someone who, as Craww said, manages to clash against the song's melody a lot of the time, has a godawful and distracting accent, and cannot act to save her life. When I said Greeen Girl I was talking about Shoshana Bean who prety much made it verbal that she wante to be making music as oppose to doing wicked and it showed.

Just because a release date isn't out means SH*T. There are a lot of people in this indusrty that don't like to give out a release date because that would have to rush the workd to get it out by that date. And if you wanna think every single time that because someone is comming back into the show that they are doing it cus they are workign on a failing album then be my guest. I can asure you that she LOVES the show and is very verbal about it. I can assure you that she is back because she loves doing the show and for no other reason.


People on these boards bitch and moan when they realize that broadway is slowly going away from the artistic side and now becoming more and more of a busniss. Just like that then maybe there are actually actors that love doing a partiuclar show and are not returning back to it because they can't get an album out or they have to pay the bills ect.

I'm sure some of it does have to do with her friendliness at the door . . . hard to dislike someone who comes out with a big smile and a hug. But that said . . . the first time I saw her I admired her singing abilities but disliked her Mimi. Now, having seen her a few times, she has really grown on me. She is still far from the best actress around, but her vocals are pretty amazing, in my opinion anyway.

Before Antonique came into RENT Karmine Alers was doing the role. She had been doing it for years and very much loved by the fans. That being said there were people who were worried about who would be replacing her because it seemed as if Karmine was doing it for so long and was so good that she became almost irrepacable sp? But, when I saw Antonique for the first time she wowed me. And, that was during the time in my life ( a few months ago) when I thought that RENT was aamzing. I still do. And I know its said that I have gone so often that the cast knows me by name. I have actually spent a good amount of time over the many times I have seen the show stopping and chatting with Antonique.

Oh, please. You'd only know that for a fact if you were a personal friend of hers and she mentioned that to you. And I'll believe that she's actually putting out an album when I see it.

I also never said that anytime a cast member rejoins the show, they're working on a failing album, but generally cast members who rejoin the show ARE there because they couldn't find work in other avenues of theatre or music.

Do you have her phone number? Does she ask you out for dinner and drinks on the weekend? Does she come to you with her problems and thoughts on a regular basis that doesn't involve stagedoor interaction? If not, again, you have no real way of knowing what she is truly thinking about the show. I'm not saying that she doesn't like the show, but I doubt she'd come back to the show if her solo music career was going the way she wanted it.

And you are making NO sense. I said that some performers go back to reasons other than their album failing. On the other hand, some performers go back to Rent when their solo music career is in the process of flopping/flopped.

there is a HUGE difference between being friendly with somone and being friends. I have seen her in RENT many many many times. She knows my name and we have stopped and chatted for a while every now and then. That is her being friendly with me I NEVER said that we were friends and she has my nuber ect. Don't put words in my mouth. And for you to say O she is just going back cus her music carrear isn't going well is not true. For all you know she could be right where she wants to with her music but wanted to come back anway. Don't make a blanked judgment unill you know all the facts.
