I have to say it is now one of my favorite shows on B'way...
I got the cd a while ago and listened to it maybe once or twice, but couldn't the whole way through. The songs didn't touch me though some where very funny, I just didn't fall in love with just the recording.
Then I finally got to see the show after waiting since last Septemer 6th's buying of the tickets (while with my father in NYC to see Rent by TKTS). We got tix at the BO, and he decided to get tickets for the first date with good orchestra seats instead of sooner--so I finally saw it last weekend (1/
Seeing the show (and I was in row E, right/center, which made me happy) was a great experience--now it has settled into my brain like a really good aftershock. The show to me was refreshing. (I saw Wicked for the first and last time on 1/2 and it did not enchant me as Avenue Q did, if much at all, no offense to fans) I find all of the Q songs in my head and me wanting to listen to the cd unlike before seeing it. I was taken aback by the performances, especially Lyon's, because I wasn't really anxious about it ahead of time, and Tartaglia's, of course-- so animated, so wonderful. (Not to mention the rest of the cast!)
After the show (as I had heard often about how kind the cast was) I went with my mom to the stagedoor.
They were all too kind--everyone signed for anyone that asked (except Belcon) and were extremely *awww*.
I wish I could have told John at least (because he hung around the longest and people left as they got his signature, and because I got a photo with him) how amazing he was (I did say thank yous but almost nothing more). I'm a little to shy--but I'm trying to grow myself out of it heh. When I got home I started reading articles about how he got to where he is, which I remembered, once reading them, I had searched and read all about back in September after getting tix. Now I also wish I could have asked him/said something about that, too. His story is amazing--such drive... It makes me feel torn between 'it's really possible for fantasies to come true' and 'I am 16 going on 17 and haven't made enough out of my life yet, did I waste of 16 years?' !
I'll have to comment/email at his site (which is very awesome in its design!).
Seeing Avenue Q has added a favorite musical to my list, as well as a top of my list (maybe a tie for) favorite actor. It's his story of such drive that gets me...and reallly makes me want to learn puppetry...really badly (and seriously-something to learn-the only thing is online it is hard to read up on it...I'll have to head to the library and try to find books on amazon.....at least to know how...I really want to know how the puppets function....)
I'd love to see it again, and soon, or even not soon but see it again...too bad my mom has deemed the b'way quota to be basically full for this season (as SATs and etc are coming to get me)...

I can't wait to see Avenue Q (hopefully in April!!!). SOOOOO EXCITED (even though it's 3 months away)

Posted: 1/12/05 at 12:54amIs Barrett replacing Johhny T? Sorry, I really don't want to touch the John-Leaving-The-World-Forever-Threads.

I have not seen the show yet, but have tickets for Right Orchestra, Row A for the end of April. For those of you who have seen the show...Should I get the CD now and listen to it before I see the show, or will that "ruin" any of the excitement/suprises of seeing the show for the first time?
Just wondering if anyone thought one way or another was better.
Thanks for you help!

Barrett is definately taking over for Johnny. He's going to be fantastic, though we'll miss our dear J-Tags...
And as far as listening to the CD before you see the show.. If you can hold off you'll be more surprised I think, but the OBCR is so awesome, it may be worth it.

QtKt,
Thanks for almost answering my questions?!?! :) I broke down and bought the CD. It will most definitely make the next 100 days before my plane leaves MUCH more enjoyable. Is it wrong to be singing "the internet is for porn" while at work? I have these songs stuck in my head...but i think that is a good thing! Can't wait to see it. I agree that it would have been a bigger suprise without hearing it, but I think I will enjoy it more knowing what is going on. (Kinda like RENT when the sound guy is having an off night on tour. If you know the words, it doesn't bother you-but if you don't know the words, you can't understand what's happening) Thanks for the help!

Now now shneb28, let's not be like the wacked up shizkids and start fighting about who has stalked the most cast members
We have to set an example
Although I must admitt, that is quite impressive

Oooo---
shneb28:Are you making real-working puppet replicas? Do you know anything about puppet making?
I ask because I've been sitting on really wanting to learn how to make rod puppets for a little while now, start making one of my own (rod, as in type, not necessarily "Rod" lol)-- have you read any books that you could suggest to me or anything of the sort?
I'm going to order The Foam Book I think for starters and see what the reading can do for me...
:)thanks
