Pay tribute to the guy they've been calling a loser and mocked for almost a decade? Ok...

I never liked that they portrayed/mocked an actual person in the show. It was unnecessary.
A tribute is the very least they can do. But not enough.
I can't imagine how tasteless the show will feel tonight.

Posted: 5/29/10 at 4:53amI never have seen anything wrong with continuing the ongoing social joke in the show about Gary Coleman. However I am not sure that one would pay tribute to someone who had threatened to sue them.

Addy--this was the speech given last night by Danielle Kamilah Thomas, the actress who plays Gary Coleman. She posted it on her Facebook wall and wrote this:
"This was the speech I gave tonight after a hard yet powerful show! So much love to my Avenue Q family (cast, new and old, crew and creatives) We did good tonight guys!"

...didn't hear too much in the way of an actual TRIBUTE to him. The opening sentence of the speech recognized his 'life and career', but they didn't elaborate in any way.
It sounded more like an acceptance speech. It was about her. And the cast.
Not Gary.
There was nothing bad about it. It just wasn't about Gary.
As I wrote originally, I never felt they needed an actual person to be a character in the show. The same humor and laughter could have been found without adding pain and hurt to an individual.
Just my opinion.

Very true.
Perhaps they could have found a better way.
In the end, I just don't think it was necessary to have a real person in the show.
I still think it will be uncomfortable to watch the show now.

I agree with Addy. They should have used a Gary Coleman puppet!
