I agree. There's absolutely nothing wrong about being in a BFA program. You can always get a masters or teaching certificate for it and teach! And besides, if you really love the life of theatre and I mean love it like you would suffer and be willing to give up your free time, then you should do it otherwise you'll always wonder "what if?"
And I wouldn't say that doing musical theatre is "play time" whatsoever. Because sometimes it's not fun, it's actually real work. I have to play a piano profiency, do vocal juries, do written analysis on plays and scene and monologue work, dance juries etc. I am getting an education! Plus, my programs makes us do all these auditions so that we can have professional jobs in summer stock and other places! I learn to enjoy it but I wouldn't say it's play time whatsoever. I'm not trying to be a bitch about this but I think you're making it seem like you are telling someone to give up on their dream. I'm not saying you are but you are giving that impression. What is this, the 50's? If you have the urgency and willingness to do it, then by golly go for it! You never know what happens! And I am getting an education not only in theatre and music classes but in core classes too. I know not all musical theatre schools do that but it's no big deal. It's unforunate but it's not the end of the world. There's always a chance for everyone. Sure it's risky but so is every job oppurtunity in the world isn't it? You just have to have faith in yourself.
I say go for the program if you can, I know a few awesome teachers from there!
